Pickup

Gibson counts the P 490 pickups to the modern classics, which is also a good sound description for these parts known from many current Gibson guitars. The starting point was the legendary PAF (now available as Classic 57); this one got slightly more high mids, so that it becomes even more assertive. With the alnico 2 magnet, however, the typical singing sound is always guaranteed.

  • Humbucker
  • The modern equivalent to the Classic 57
  • The 4-wire cable enables various switching variants
  • With vintage alnico magnets
  • Sound characteristics: Singing lead sounds and powerful rhythm sounds
  • Colour: Gold

Get the Les Paul Custom sound
Bernard Shakey 18.04.2019
I bought both this pickup and the 498T for neck and bridge positions respectively. They are the pickups currently used in Gibson's Les Paul Customs so seemed a logical choice in deciding to upgrade my Epiphone Les Paul Custom.
I also like that they offer a PAF-like sound but with more warmth due to the extra midrange. Additionally they can be adapted for coil tapping unlike the 57 classics
The pickups come in a very tasteful perspex box and a diagram with wiring instructions is included

Best Gibson pickups IMO

No need for introduction. Put 490R/498T in any Les Paul or SG guitar and it's alive.

I bought this pickup in lieu of a Seymour Duncan antiquity for my Epiphone Custom Pro Les Paul and I love it.
It sounds amazing, it feels great, it coil-taps wonderfully, pulls off a brilliant phase shift with a 490T. It's a Gibson pickup, you know exactly what you are in for.
