Gibson 57 Classic Vintage BK

Original Gibson Humbucker

The first humbucker was the PAF by Seth Lover (the PAF gets its name from the "patent applied for" sticker which was stuck on its underside), and this was subsequently found on the legendary Gibson guitars, including Les Paul, SG, ES series, but also in the exotics like Flying V or Explorer. For many guitarists it is still the best: not a screamer - it is much too classy for that - but it can sing like no other pickup. Nowadays even the tough guys prefer to use the PAF in the neck position, because it harmonises so well with a slightly more violent-sounding pickup on the bridge.

Lovely Sound

Got this and 57 plus as an upgrade for my Epi LP. Not very experienced with PAF-style pickups myself, but I can definitely say it gives out a great sound. Plenty of smooth, yet surprisingly bright (when required) tone on tap. I usually like to play around with the volume pots to get different tones out of the guitar, and this pickup offers something special on every setting: lovely cleans and drive sound, does a great job at picking up the dynamics in my playing. My favorite is a bit of gain for that "on the edge of breakup" sound, it really sparkles with character.
One single complaint .. When installed on my LP, it wouldn't quite sit centred in the pickup cavity. The guy who installed it said it was due to the pickup mounts (the little handles beneath it). It might also be due to it not matching my Epi LP cavity, but I've had no such problem with the 57 plus. The result is that the strings and the poles aren't quite aligned ... minor issue though, doesn't seem to affect the sound.

Perfect

I have the Gibson 57 Classic Vintage pickup in the neck of my 95' Gibson Les Paul Classic.
The sound is perfect. There is not much more to say. I love the clean sounds it gives me, the dirty sounds are excellent as well.
I would recommend to anyone who has ever owned a Les Paul to try this classic pickup. That being said there are a lot of replicas out there, read a bit about them and give any one a try.
This one does the job for me, I won't be swapping it out any time soon.

Great pickup

I am very happy with this purchase, it is a great pick up with a fantastic vintage sound.
A couple of years ago I put a 57 on the bridge position of a cheap LTD LP style body as I waned to have that kind of sound available in my studio and i've been very happy so far with it but recently I decided to replace also the neck pup, to my surprise it sounds even better than the one on the bridge.

Highly recommended!

The only negative comment i have about it is the fact that being a vintage pup it only comes with one wire + earth so is not possible to install a pull/pull knob to switch it into a single coil pup but hey, it is a Gibson 57 vintage after all...!

The absolutely lovely sound of a classic PAF. I use it in the neck of an old ibanez SG pre law suit and it absolutely rocks. Im more in to jazz playing and this thing really delivers it.
