Multi-effect, multi-function

The Japanese company Zoom has long been synonymous with products that deliver excellent value for money, and the B1Four pedal is no exception, offering bassists affordable access to the world of effects without skimping on the range of options or on sound quality. Designed primarily as a multi-effect pedal, the Zoom B1Four also packs a host of practical functions into a compact format. Some of the main features are amp simulations, a drum machine, a looper, a headphone amplifier, and ingeniously designed connectivity. What is more, the pedal's practical format means it can fit easily into a pedalboard or gig bag.

Zoom B1Four Multi-effect Pedal

Countless options

The term "multi-effect" takes on a whole new meaning with the Zoom B1Four, which offers over 60 effects for bassists to choose from. Five of them can be combined simultaneously in any order to create a genuinely personalised effects chain, and alongside this feature, nine simulations of classic bass amp arrangements further extend the available sonic palette. Each favourite combination can be saved in one of the 50 user storage slots provided, while the built-in looper allows users to record up to 30 seconds of sound, and the 68 different rhythms provided by the drum machine will inspire as many practice sessions as jams, alone or with a group. The Zoom B1Four also includes a tuner, an AUX input for external audio sources, and a headphone output. By connecting it to a computer via the USB port, players can update the firmware as well as edit and save patches easily with the Zoom Guitar Lab software.

Zoom B1Four Multi-effect Pedal

Perfect for bassists on a budget

Amassing a collection of effect pedals can soon become a costly business, and that is without considering the necessary pedalboard, external power supply, and cabling. The Zoom B1Four is an affordable alternative for bassists and still offers a wealth of sounds and boundless opportunities for musical experimentation. With its vast array of sounds, bass players can unleash their creativity by exploring adventurous new soundscapes and testing original arrangements without breaking the bank. The additional functions are also a perfect practice partner at home or on the go.

Spotlight on the Zoom B1Four Multi-effect Pedal

About Zoom

Founded in 1983, the Japanese company Zoom manufactures a variety of audio equipment, including a range of portable "handy" recorders as well as multi-effects processors, effects pedals, drum machines, and samplers. Over the past thirty years, the company has built a reputation for producing innovative yet affordable products based on original microchip designs. Since the Zoom-9002 (an ultra-compact multi-effects processor that can be attached to a guitar strap) was introduced in 1990, Zoom has become one of the leaders in digital audio processing.

More than just an effects unit

The main objective of a multi-effect pedal is of course to bring together a wealth of high-quality effects in a single unit - and the Zoom B1Four fulfils the brief perfectly. In addition, it can help users to seriously improve their musical skills. The drum machine offers hours of fun and improvisation, and boasts 68 rhythms to inspire rehearsals and jam sessions alike, whether alone or in a group, all while improving users' sense of rhythm. The built-in looper in turn provides up to 30 seconds of recording time. The AUX input allows smartphones or other audio sources to be connected, ideal for playing the user's favourite tracks. Finally, the B1Four offers the total experience simply by plugging in a pair of headphones, even when silence is required.

sweet sounds collection and easy to use
ChrisVerwimp 11.11.2020
I was already tempted by it while it was sold for a 100€. Reviews on Youtube and other medias were all great.
When I saw it down to 66€, it was an insta-buy.
Effects and amp sims are sweet. Looper and rythm are nice addition even if I don't really care for them as of right now.
Its shell is plastic but nonetheless it feels heavy and solid. I was affraid to receive a china made crappy gizmo, happy surprise.
While unpacking it, I was anyway a bit disappointed when I saw that it was sold without any power source other than the offered 4 AA-batteries. Quick inspection showed also no sing of a real power switch on the pedal.
My first thought was that I will be forced to install those batteries each and every time I will be using the pedal.
Well call me stupid or ignorant, its powering itself on and off whenever you plug/unplug the input jack. Sweet!
Anyway, if you got one laying around, it can be powered via B-type micro usb cable (smartphone charge cable) or an usual 9v dc lead.
So all an' all, quite happy with it. Once again, for that kind of money, it's worth every cent.

GB
Very much useable
GMK Bass 10.06.2022
First of all, for this price.... You can't ask for more.
That being said, yes ofcourse, you will most likely NEVER get sounds that you will get from Darkglass or something along that line. However, if you actually spend some time (A LOT of time) with it, you will get very competitive tones out of this pedal. EQ section is definitely pretty solid, but more specialized effects such as phaser or distortion is.. okay.. ish....

The construction is VERY uninspiring. The outer casing looks like low quality straight out Audi interior... ;) I have gigged this pedal 3 times so far, I haven't had any problems with parts falling or snapping off, and hopefully it stays that way.

You can set different channels up with different sounds, or you can set it up according to your setlist. Each channel houses up to 5 different effects, and it comes with a function where you can disengage each effect by stomping on the left pedal. Pretty cool. I'm a bassist, and I don't use a whole lot of different effects, so if I wanted to, I could set up a sound and effects I need for a typical setlist into one channel.

Overall, I recommend it. Do spend some time with it when you get it. It's worth the price (very low price).
