The QSC K 12.2 is an active full-range loudspeaker for a variety of live applications, ranging from front-of-house PA to sidefill and floor monitoring; the target audience is primarily professional musicians, DJs, and the rental market. Its 12" woofer makes it the largest model in QSC's new-and-improved K series, and as such it is also equipped with an impressive power amp and a full-feature mixer unit. Thanks to its high-strength ABS housing, though, it is also both light enough and robust enough to be easily transported. Compared to the first K series, QSC has doubled the K 12.2's peak power, as well as equipping the speaker with a Hi-Z input and DSP plus display, making it easy to directly select different sound settings for a variety of uses.
The two-way loudspeaker, with its 12" woofer and 1.4" titanium compression driver, is powered by a 2000W power amplifier, which supplies the bass speaker with 1800W – the rest is used by the speaker's tweeters. The frequency range extends from 45Hz to 20kHz with a dispersion pattern of 75°; the maximum sound pressure level is 132dB. QSC's patented Directivity Matched Transition guarantees even coverage. The QSC K 12.2 has a three-channel mixer and integrated DSP for advanced speaker management: Input management, a four-band EQ, a delay adjustment of 0–100ms, and a high-pass filter for optional subwoofers are all part of the package, as well as numerous user presets. All this can be conveniently managed using the function buttons and selection dial on the unit's 45x25.4mm multifunction display. An additional speaker can be controlled via the XLR output.
QSC has aimed its K.2 series squarely at professional users. Consequently, the 12.2 model, with its widely-used form factor and flexible design, is ideal for many common applications, from playing dance music in a nightclub to amplifying instruments or a vocal microphone: The back panel has three adjustable channels for this very purpose. The first two are equipped with a lockable XLR/jack combo socket, with channel A intended for microphone/line signals and channel B for Hi-Z/line signals. Channel C is a dedicated stereo jack input, for playing music from a smartphone, for instance. All three have practical LEDs displaying their respective signals. For users who want to quickly apply the ideal sound settings for their location, there are a total of 11 presets available for a wide range of applications; equally, individual user settings such as input type, delay, EQ, and crossover can also be saved and activated as required. The 12.2 also comes with a built-in limiter to prevent clipping.
QSC was founded as a limited liability company over four decades ago and has since established itself as a global leader in the design and manufacture of professional audio system solutions. At QSC, everything - power amplifiers, loudspeakers, digital signal processing (DSP) and digital mixing consoles – is developed under the one roof. This results in products and systems whose features are perfectly matched to one another. QSC's expertise is also evident in its state-of-the-art production technology and quality control. Its products are manufactured with computer-aided precision in a facility covering more than 7,500 square meters in Costa Mesa, California, in the United States.
The QSC K 12.2 can be used in a huge variety of settings: Simply as a floor wedge, or elevated on a stand for presentations, speeches, and lectures thanks its integrated flange. Depending on what it's being used for, it can also be tilted by 7.5 degrees. For smaller gigs with singer-songwriters and vocalists, one speaker should be enough: When paired with a second unit, the QSC K 12.2 cuts a fine figure as a stereo system for solo entertainers, wedding DJs, and the like. If the user needs more power, for example for concerts or pro DJ use, the setup can be complemented with a subwoofer from the same series, such as the KS 112 or KS 118, or (depending on the size of the event) other related models. If required, the speakers can also be flown or mounted on walls, ceilings, or trusses using the two M10 mounting points with integrated PullBack eyelet. One last thing: The QSC K series active loudspeakers were inducted into the TECnology Hall of Fame at the 2020 NAMM Show.
