Pro-level equipment on a budget

They are a real classic and the standard when it comes to sound amplification for smaller bands and events: 12" full-range speakers with an integrated power amplifier. This comes as no surprise, since they are still easy to transport, offer a balanced sound, can be easily expanded with one or more subwoofers if required – and above all, are affordable. Of course, Electro-Voice also has various models in this range for different price categories. For users who want professional results but are on a budget, the EV EKX-12P is the way to go, as they get a solid wooden housing, a potent digital power amplifier including DSP control, and all of Electro-Voice’s experience in the field of sound amplification at a very fair price.

EV EKX-12P Active 12" Loudspeaker

Reassuringly powerful

The EV EKX-12P is a great tip for musicians looking for an active speaker system for their band as well as for sound engineers and DJs. Whether it is used as a PA speaker with or without a subwoofer, for on-stage monitoring, for speech, or even in permanent installations, this 12" speaker with digital power amplifier makes a convincing case across the board. It will be particularly interesting for users who are putting together their first PA setup and want a complete package whose components are perfectly matched to each other. Simply run one signal cable each from the mixer to the speaker’s input, then connect to the power supply – that’s it. More than one pair of speakers is also no problem: Users can connect to the next (active) speaker via the output on the back. Thanks to the integrated signal processor, the EV EKX-12P can be instantly optimised for various applications (with or without an additional subwoofer, as a stage monitor, for speech, etc.). Top-notch stuff!

Connections and user interface on the EV EKX-12P Active 12" Loudspeaker

Get started right away

Bands, sound engineers, and DJs putting together their first sound system will be particularly reluctant to spend a fortune but will still want a convincing sound and enough power. And there is no doubt that the Electro-Voice-EKX-12P makes a convincing case here. Users don't need much more than a decent mixer, the right cables, and a pair of these active speakers to have a solid setup that can be easily upgraded at any time. The compact 12" speaker can deliver up to an impressive 1.500 watts of power and an SPL of up to 132dB per unit – enough to easily fill small to medium-sized locations with a high-quality sound. And best of all: Users can gradually expand their existing setup, for example with subwoofers for more a full-bodied bass response. And thanks to the wide range of accessories from the long-established US manufacturer, the EKX-12P can be adapted to a wide variety of purposes at any time.

About Electro-Voice

Electro-Voice was founded in 1927 and has been dedicated to building sound reinforcement systems and microphones since the 1930s. The firm, originally based in Indiana, USA, is considered one of the industry pioneers and has developed many new technologies still in use today. For example, their hum-cancelling coil was not only a milestone for microphone construction, but also was at the origin of the humbucker pickups still used in many guitars. In the long history of the company, Electro-Voice has constantly expanded its offer and today sells a wide range of products for sound reinforcement tasks from entry to professional levels.

A true all-rounder

With a pair of Electro-Voice EKX-12Ps, users can easily fill venues with a capacity of 300 to 350 people with both speech and music. Those planning to use these speakers for a live band – as well as anyone who generally needs a lot of bass (e.g. for modern metal or heavy electronic sounds) – should consider purchasing one (or even several) suitable subwoofers such as the EV EKX-15SP. In addition to the great sound, users can expect extremely easy assembly and disassembly as well as uncomplicated operation for hours on end, which is further enhanced by features such as the built-in limiter, the cooling fan that starts if needed, and the various programmes provided by the easy-to-use DSP.

EV EKX-12P - Good all round performance
Paul_IP 18.11.2017
We use the EV EKX-12P speakers as part of our rental sound systems which go out with an engineer. These are great all round PA speakers, either on their own or in conjunction with the EKX 18SP subs. We have been using a variety of other active speakers and the EV units come out best. The sound quality is very good across the frequency spectrum and we have not had any problems with background noise or hiss. One feature that is especially useful is the fact that these come in at around 18kg and so one person can mount them on the stands and their size makes them very portable. Their power is sufficient to fill most venues with audiences up to 300 and they can be mounted in pairs on a stand splitter where the working weight is below 40kg. We recommend the use of the wind up stands for ease of assembly. Some high power active speakers lose some depth and clarity of sound when used at low volume but the EVs are also particularly good in working small venues where there needs to be a limit on output volume. Great value and great quality.

A
Sound Good but amp build is poor
Anonymous 28.01.2017
Bought a pair of these and used them in a theatre environment for sound effects and vocal PA. Sound quality is good and they have a nice tone and good bass considering their size. However read on as it's not all good...

From the beginning both units had very loud fan noise leading to complaints from the audience of the first show I used them for. There was also a noticeable hiss from the speakers when using the inbuilt amp at greater than -15dB making the full power range unusable in a theatrical environment. (as we need silence most of the time)

Then during the second show I used them for one of them failed completely and I had to send them back to EV via Thomann. Thomann were great as ever but having now got them back they still have the fan noise and hiss. (but do both now work!)

I have used EV passive kit for years and had high hopes for this active unit but wish I hadn't bothered as I'm now feeling they are only fit for eBay or to languish in a cupboard. Not sure I can trust them for show again!

They would be fine for a disco but if you ever want silence, such as theatre or a wedding, then these are not for you!
