Affordable and easy to connect

The Fun Generation PL 115 A is an active full-range loudspeaker with a unusually large woofer for this price point; it is the largest of the PL series, which is aimed squarely at beginners. But the size of the integrated speakers is not the only difference between the various models: Like all the speakers in the PL series, the PL 115 has a built-in media player with USB input, SD card slot, and Bluetooth interface, which can be used as an alternative to a line-in. However, the PL 115 – like its little brother, the PL 112 – has two microphone inputs with XLR and jack sockets, where the smaller PL 108 and PL 110 have one microphone and one AUX input; they all come with volume and equaliser buttons integrated into the media player. All models are equipped with a locking speaker twist output for a passive speaker, so that an additional speaker can be integrated into an existing sound system.

Media player included

The Fun Generation PL 108 A has so many ways of playing music that it will turn any house party into a night at the club. The media player built into back of the unit can be used to access an SD card, and besides its little keypad it can also be operated remotely, making MP3 and WAV files an option too. The Bluetooth interface, of course, is also ideal for playing music from a smartphone, although users can also connect their music source to the 3.5mm mini-jack socket, the volume of which can be adjusted separately. A dynamic microphone can be connected to the XLR input. Whatever the source, after the signal has passed through a two-band equaliser in the master section, the 15" bass speaker and 1" compression driver go to work. If the levels are too high, there is a dedicated clipping LED. The entire package generates a maximum sound pressure level of 116 dB and weighs 15kg (33lbs), with two handles to make it easier to carry the speaker to the venue.

For DJing and live music

The Fun Generation PL 108 A is an entry-level speaker suitable for small to mid-sized venues, depending on the kind of music being played. It is suitable for audiences and for monitoring, and the price is almost unbeatable, and its extensive connectivity makes it equally at home in the living room or in schools, while its numerous inputs will provide every guest at social gatherings the chance to share their favourite songs with everyone. And thanks to the line out, it can even be used for recording a bands' first live gigs. On top of that, there is a microphone input for MCing, or indeed for longer presentations: This fanless speaker is so quiet that it's easy to focus on what is being said. Of course, solo entertainers can connect both a keyboard and a vocal microphone. And to bring the speaker up the right height for audiences who are mostly on their feet, it can be placed on an optional stand (a speaker cover, also sold separately, is available too, for protection while on tour.)

About Fun Generation

Since 1999, the products of Thomann's house brand Fun Generation have been an integral part of the store's range. These products, which are made by renowned companies who also manufacture products for other well-known brands, provide a convincing combination of quality and reliability at reasonable prices. The product range includes music stands and other hardware, Bluetooth speakers, LED spotlights, moving head lighting systems, and complete active PA sets as well as LED effects, microphone pickup systems, cables, and splitters. Price-conscious customers in the field of lighting and stage technology are sure to find what they are looking for in this extensive product range, which includes over 160 items.

Party in the house

Users celebrating a birthday at home or in their garden can really get the party swinging by using a Fun Generation Speaker Stand to elevate the speaker. Then, all they need to do is connect a laptop to the stereo cinch input, freeing up the PL 115 A's media player so that guests can play music from their smartphones via Bluetooth. For announcements and the like, a simple dynamic microphone would be a neat addition. And to get more sound out on the dancefloor, the matching Fun Generation PL 115 P speaker – the 115's passive cousin – can be connected to the speaker twist output, which, while not creating a stereo signal, will evenly split the sound spatially.

O
Excellent speaker for the money
OrtonE 14.06.2020
I have bought few of them as the stage monitors for my 4K sound system and they are doing great in this set.
I've needed something quickly at that time in a tight budget for the series of events. It have been several months since I bought them and I can tell you that they still work and looks like new.
They are quite loud with plenty of punchy bass and clear midds and high.
Obviously they won't sound like Yamahas or EVs but there is nothing wrong with sound quality especially for the money.
As a standalone speakers they would be more than sufficient for a medium sized pub or club.
I use 2x115 as main speakers and 2x110 for monitors with my band and this set is doing perfect job. As the are active it greatly reduces amount of required boot space and setup time.
My only worry is the durability of the chassis as the plastic doesn't seems as good and thick as on more expensive ones, but on the other hand they are very light for 15" powered speakers.

Q
a lot of features, trouple with shipping
Qari 12.02.2019
This speaker has really amazing features such as remot control and the Bluetooth. In addition it sounds great for playing for a 50-100 people. also its suitable for guitar play. the only thing that gone wrong is with transportation, it wasn't well packed which cause it to have some damages to the outside body.

Arrived damaged, sound is colored and weak
dTech 20.03.2023
The product came extremely poorly packed, there's only styrofoam caps on the top and bottom and nothing to protect the flimsy shipping cardboard box from the sides. It was heavily banged up when it arrived, and there were several big holes in the side of the box, it was almost as if it was kicked or punctured by a forklift or something... multiple times....

As a result, the product arrived damaged, the front grill was heavily dented inwards and almost touching the speaker cone. There were also broken pieces of the plastic speaker box. Electronically, the unit was still operational as far as I can tell.

Feature wise it is OK I guess, but the sound is rather underwhelming, I did not expect quality sound, but I did expect it to be loud, which it isn't. The specs say 600W peak, but this thing is quieter than my pair of 50W monitors. 2x50 real watts beats 600 marketing watts apparently.

I waited for this product to be shipped for several months, and despite the damaged state it came in I kept it because I needed it for work, I couldn't afford to waste any more time and resources returning it, without any guarantee a replacement will come in any better.

I would not recommend this product even if it came in pristine condition. The sound is very colored and the output power is underwhelming. I would not have bought this if I could test it on the spot. This also causes me to seriously rethink ordering equipment online...

PC
To connect via bluetooth + mobile phone
Pete Carroll 13.05.2019
I bought this speaker + stand to connect to my phone, for house parties etc. It is superb. The bluetooth function has excellent coverage, and the sound is bright and easily powerful enough to fill a large 100m2 + garden space. The build quality is strong - built for hard knocks......and the stand is robust and steady. I am a very happy customer!
