Maybe the best EMG yet

I wanted something to go into a single pickup guitar and I wanted it to be active. As it would have to do more than just rhythm it had to have some versatility in it which ruled out the 81 as that is not great for cleans.

This pick up has some similarities to the 81 but is not as laser focussed and a bit more relaxed in that regards. It was just what
I wanted, a nice clean. Works really well across various gain levels. It sounds thick and has a great presence under high gain, doesn’t get muddy. It has that EMG character but does not come across as sterile.

If you want something different from EMG this is it.

If the 81 is too shrill for you the 57 is perfect. It is a beast than can do high gain in spades but has great cleans as well. This can do any style you throw at it.

Dull, dead, no aggression, creamy soft

Big disappointment, high mids are completely taken away, without the mid-high growl pickup has no aggression, it's very creamy and mellow, dull and dead sounding. Everything I do not want for Metal!!! I tried it in Jackson Soloist SL2H with EVH 5150 III 6L6 and Greenbacks 4x12 cab. (I have read another review were guy sad he also does not like it too much with EVH 5150, so maybe that's the reason).
