Real bronze from the Far East

Zultan's most affordable cymbal series is called Aja - pronounced "Asia" - and is made in China. Unlike the machine-made B8 cymbals offered in the same price range by their competitors, the Ajas are cast from high-quality B20 bronze and hand-hammered. In addition to the 17" crash, the Aja range offers other individual cymbals in various sizes and designs in addition to various preconfigured sets.

Zultan 17" Aja Crash

B20 - the standard yesterday, today, and tomorrow

In China, people have been familiar with the manual production of gongs and cymbals for centuries, so a lot of experience has gone into making the Aja series. 80 percent copper and 20 percent tin, B20 for short, is the name of the formula that has long since established itself as the magic formula for high-quality, melodious cymbals. As the cymbals are hand-hammered, each one is unique, which means that slight sound variations among several cymbals of the same type are normal. The sound of the Zultan 17" Aja Crash is balanced with a slightly "trashy" note which gives the cymbal its own character.

Zultan 17" Aja Crash, Detail

Good sound doesn't have to cost a fortune

High-quality cymbals are often unaffordable for beginner drummers, so they can now be happy that the Zultan Aja cymbals offer a lot of sound for not a lot of money. No matter if you are playing Rock, Alternative, Grunge, Pop, or Funk - the Zultan 17" Aja-Crash can be used in each of these genres thanks to its powerful, harmonious sound. However, with this model even advanced drummers might find exactly the right cymbal to close the remaining gap in their setup.

Save money in the right places

Anyone who is serious about drumming as a beginner drummer knows that a good cymbal sound is just as important as the great features and the cool look of the newly acquired drums. No matter whether you only buy the 17" crash or a complete Zultan Aja cymbal set at an unbeatable price - the investment is definitely worth it, because the cymbals sound so good that you will still have fun playing them years later. The Aja range is so diverse that other cymbals from the hi-hat, crash, ride, china, and splash categories can be purchased later to meet players' growing demands.

Great crash if you're on a budget
Konstantinos A. 28.09.2017
I've tried the 16" and 17" crashes and the 10" splash from the Zultan Aja series and I must say that I've got close to no complaints considering their price.

The sound is not as refined as the expensive series from the reknown brands like Zildjian, Sabian, Paiste etc, but you can get these at a fraction of the price.
The price might make you think otherwise, but they can hold their own in a live or recording setting since they sound like actual cymbals and nothing like the cheap brass entry series and probably better than most of the cheap bronze series as well.

Now in particular about this 17" crash, I would say that it's not the loudest 17" out there, but it can get pretty loud and it can handle heavy music. It is slightly clangy when you listen to it by itself (as many cymbals do when you go up in diameter), but you wouldn't notice that in context. It doesn't sound as bright as a 2002 or an A custom, but I'd say it leans towards the brighter side of the spectrum (I wouldn't call it dark).

As for pairing, I would probably choose the 18" to pair with the 16" I already had since this 17" is kinda close with the 16". They work together, but I would prefer a more distinguishable difference.

Finally, durability-wise, it seems to be holding up quite well after 1,5 years and keep in mind that its main use is in live settings and rehearsals by many different drummers. It doesn't get a daily beating, but it has seen some heavy use for certain and it's made more money than it cost.

All in all, I'm very happy about this purchase and I would probably get another one (or perhaps the 18") if this eventually breaks.

Amazing high quality crash
dabrorius 14.02.2019
I play this crash and it's 16 inch version exclusively for the last two years. Both for rehearsals and gigs, in a bit heavier setting (hard rock/metal music). They sound amazing and are holding up great, definitely a much better value for money then cymbals from bigger brands in similar price range.

Fantastic.

Easily one of my favourite cymbals I have ever used.
Great for live shows as the sound emitted is fantastic. Great attack with some really nice tones. The bell on this cymbal is also a fantastic sound to add to your arsenal of noise.
Also makes for great practice cymbals due to the price which means they are easy to replace.

Great sound for cheap
Funny mushroom 18.08.2019
My first experience with the Zultan cymbals. I also have the 18 Aja crash and 10 Aja splash. I bought them for practice and band rehearsals, to use them instead of more expensive cymbals. The sound is great, no problem using them instead of Zildjians A's. I don't know about the durability yet, so far everything is fine(2 months of use, 4-5 times a week). Music played is mostly rock-oriented with crash-riding from time to time. If you on a budget, the Aja series sounds much better than similarly priced top brands cymbals for sure. Interesting to try more expensive Zultan cymbals. Recommended!
