DBR12s are my first powered speakers (I've used passive speakers until now) and I have to say I love them. Clarity of the sound is fantastic and I noticed the speakers perform the best up to 3db volume setting (perhaps with the sub I could go little higher). Speaking of subs, I was deciding..a looong time... whether to go for 12 or 15 inch version. Since I intend to use them with sub I went for 12. They are not too basy but still impressive for 12inch especially when the D countour is used. So if you're looking for that extra bass without sub I can only imagine the15s would be better in this respect. In my case I saved a little money on each that I will invest in decent sub. Last but not least I had heavy 28kg speakers before and DBR12s are just below 16kg each, so lifting them on the pole is easy. Connections - more than I will need or use so happy there. Seems solid build quality and I wasn't sure about the design but they do look great. The Yamaha warranty for DBR series is 2+2 so not 7years, but I'm happy with that too. The speakers are to be tested on the road but for now I'm happy.

Yamaha Quality

This powered speaker has a very pleasing sound. I use it as a keyboard monitor or amp depending on what type of venue I am at. The DBR12 has not disappointed so far. The 12 inch speaker provides enough bottom end for most requirements. At just over 15Kg it is comfortable to lift. The input section with its DSP EQ switches is easy to use and covers most applications (i.e. as monitor or FOH). The Yamaha DXR12 padded speaker cover also fits the DBR12!

Very good
julian spiteri 11.07.2017
This is my first speaker. It goes very loud and I could not crank it all up inside. Connected to my yamaha mixer it delivered very good sound and very balanced. Mids and highs are excellent. Bass is very good for a 12" cone. Obviously if a lot of bass is needed this speaker has to be coupled with a sub woofer. The first time I used this speaker live was as a monitor for the keyboard and singer and it was excellent.
Although the speaker is made out of plastic, it seems to be robust and not easily scratched. Still you have to be gentle and treat it right since it is plastic.
A very little hiss is only heard if you put your ear with the speaker grill.
This speaker is another excellent product from Yamaha. I simply like the products they make and this speaker is no exception. Looking forward to buy a pair of DXR 15s.

Great sound in a compact, lightweight package
Glen B. 19.07.2016
Sounds great, it has a DSP mode which I prefer off, it boosts the bass and some of the top end but I feel the mids really suffer, it sounds great flat, just EQ it at the mixer.
This is about the highest SPL you will find under £500 and it really shows, top quality speaker a second will surely find its way to me in the not too distant future.
For guitar/vocals don't even think about a sub unless you want to go really loud, if you're mic-ing drums then sure. Also makes a great speaker for that cinema feeling at home!
