LED effects on the right track

Stairville LED Pixel Rail 40 RGB MKII stage lights, front view

The Stairville LED Pixel Rail 40 RGB MKII is a decorative lighting effects rail that produces a particularly bright, vibrant light. But that's not the most unusual thing about the Pixel Rails: They seem to float in the air entirely weightlessly, with only a fine power cable to suggest that it's not magical powers keeping them afloat, but ingenious technology. A controller (sold separately) is need to operate the Pixel Rail, controlling the many tiny LEDs that are lined up behind a frost filter, which ensures that each individual LED is perfectly visible. The fixture is shaped like a very slim column, and can be mounted horizontally or vertically. The Pixel Rail ships not only with a bracket that allows the bar to be mounted at an angle, but also the connectors needed to connect a number of the lamps together, as well as a network cable with RJ45 pins.

For DMX and Artnet

This stylish luminaire can be controlled using either the Stairville LED Pixel Rail Drive 640 MKII or the Stairville Pixel Rail Drive 640R, both of which are equipped with automated programmes and strobo effects, and supply the LEDs with power and data via the network cable included here. In addition, a DMX or Artnet signal can be patched into the controller. Each Stairville LED Pixel Rail 40 RGB MKII is fitted with 40 5050SMD-RGB LEDs, with only 25mm between each diode; they have a PWM frequency of 3,000Hz and a 120° beam angle, and each Pixel Rail 40 measures 1000x95x40mm and weighs 1.3kg. It should be noted, however, that with their IP20 rating, they're only suitable for use indoors. Multiple effect rails can be chained together via the RJ45 output socket, although unfortunately the Pixel Rail MKII's are not compatible with the earlier model.

For galas, parties, and theatres

The Stairville LED Pixel Rail 40 RGB MKII is ideal for events like galas and fashion shows, as well as venues like nightclubs and theatres. Even when the audience is almost eye-to-eye to the fixtures, the extremely fine power cable is still almost unnoticeable. Anyone organising a party will – when using one of the suitable controllers – have quick, easy access to 30 automatic programmes and strobo effects from 0Hz to 25Hz. Pro users can unlock even more features if they run a DMX or Artnet signal into the controller, allowing the individually activated LEDs to produce an endless variety of unique, tailor-made runs. This flexibility, along with the robust and durable die-cast aluminium casing, means the Pixel Rails are also great options for rental services; theatres, on the other hand, stand to profit most from the light rails' silent operation.

About Stairville

Since it was introduced in 1994, Thomann's in-house brand Stairville has been a permanent fixture in the store's product range. The brand primarily focuses on the field of stage lighting in general, and its products include spotlights, moving lights, and theatre lighting as well as smoke machines, electronic control systems, and every other accessory you can think of. Thomann constantly has around 1,600 Stairville products on offer, and the figures speak for themselves: Statistically, one in every fifteen Thomann customers owns at least one Stairville product. Incidentally, the name "Stairville" is also a catchy English translation of "Treppendorf", the town that Thomann calls home.

All of the lights

It's rare for one Stairville LED Pixel Rail 40 RGB MKII to be used on its own, as users can either connect a number of units to create one long light fixture, or install a whole group of them hanging in the air. And the Pixel Rails aren't just easy to get mounted – they don't even need all that much in the way of additional hardware, although there is of course an anchor point for a safety cable (sold separately). The network cable running from the controller to the first and last Pixel Rails in a chain must not be longer than 5m; all other units can be be connected to the controller with cables up to 20m long – of course, a whole range of cable lengths and finishes are available. One controller can handle up to 16 rails, and after the performance, up to eight of these slimline column light fixtures can be stowed safely and rolled back to the van in the tailor-made Thon Case 8x Pixel 40 RGB, which also has space for the controller.

Amazing for the price
primitivesound 20.11.2020
Bought these for an inexpensive bespoke touring rig. Only got a few shows out of them before lockdown but was very impressed. Bright easy to hook up, incredibly light and very easy to program. 12 of these is the equivalent weight of one of my older LED battens.

Great eye candy, can't be used as an actual fixture so to speak as they're for visual effects, not brightness. Punchy, just not wash worthy.

Sehr zufrieden mit dem Bundle, mit 16 Stück Led Pixel.
MG Entertainment 07.02.2020
