Does the job but very expensive for such a simple piece of kit
krnpwr 28.12.2020
As above, this piece of plastic does what it is supposed to do, but is very over-priced fir what it is. It clips neatly into place and of course the mix pre is practically unusable without the L-Mount batteries. Therefore the cost of your mixpre-6 II is actually over €100 more expensive for those looking to use this device for any kind of onsite recording. Delivery and order system with thomann was excellent and without fault. I will also say that Thomann's price is in line with SD, so my objections do not lie with Thomann.

Too expensiv Too expansive

Ok, let me first say that the MixPre II is a fantastic mobile recorder: nice analog limiters, 32bit float audio, good haptics, sturdy built...a great product.
The Mixpre’s just have one flaw: Powermanagement. Forget about Alkaline batteries, the Mixpre‘s eat them for breakfast: between your first coffee and your cereals the batteries will be gone. What about USB-C then? Well, this is very good to have. But you cannot rely on a flimsy USB-C connection for live recordings as the cable will come off too easily.
So, then we have the MX L-mount. This is a reliable, professional solution which depending on the NPF batteries in use can last you a whole day of shooting/recording. But the battery mount in essence is a lighweight piece of plastic which does not easily connect with the Mixpre’s. Each time I am removing it I am concerned the brackets come off. A price of €25 for this thing would be fair and would still give Sound Devices and its resellers a healthy margin. A price of €50 would be steep. A price >€100 is just excessive. This is where the Zoom F6 has a competitive edge!

Indispensable Essential

How to properly power the Mixpre without risk? I know from experience with my MAC that USB-C (given its small size) does not hold securely in place, even more so on a device like a recorder whose vocation is to be mobile. Instead of the external battery and the USB-C connection, I opted for the MX-Lmont. Fortunately for me, because the Mix pre with its screen and phantom power supplies is energy hungry. With 2 F550 size batteries, I have a battery life of half a day (4 hours). With batteries larger than the F550, the device becomes bulky and heavy.

eigentlich unabdingbar... actually essential...

If you - like me - want to operate a Sound Devices MixPre 10II without a power supply, you can't really avoid this adapter and the corresponding batteries (e.g. from the compatible range on the Internet); This means you can record for days and exchange one of the batteries for a full one during operation, according to the Sound Devices homepage. It's quite expensive for a plastic part. But still essential. Function is very good. Half price would be appropriate. You have to be aware that laying the recorder flat on a table or something similar with the adapter and both battery slots no longer works so well because one battery protrudes far beyond the bottom. Even a light tripod (for podcasts on the table, etc.) is very demanding due to the heavy batteries. On the other hand: With the L batteries you get a lot of power for relatively little money. Works with different sizes of L batteries, so you can choose the pack size and performance depending on your needs.
