Versatile and high-quality

I use this microphone for both video and audio work, mostly as a boom mic or on-camera in run-and-gun situations where I still want cleaner audio than what I get with the built-in microphone on the camera.
I love the fact that I can use it with an internal battery yet also supply phantom power when available, it allows me to use the mics built-in pre-amp on a small DSLR that has poor pre-amps yet bypass the internal circuitry when connected to a mixing desk or a field recorder that has great pre-amps.

This allows me to use it in many more situations than for example a Rode Videomic Pro that really only works well with small cameras, or a MKH416 on the other end of the spectrum where you would not want to plug it into a small camera. This boy can do both, and does it gracefully. Of course, if you're really only going to use it with a camera you might be better off using a specialised on-camera mic while if you're only going to use it with a mixer/fieldrecorder that will supply the phantom power you might be more interested in a different mic (although I really like the characteristics even when ignoring the whole battery part).
I've even used it to mic a guitar amp cabinet while the drums were playing with about 0,5m of space in between but I placed the mic at a 90 angle from the drums with the low-cut on and the recording was almost completely clean.
I've never had it shut down on me unexpectedly because the low battery warning comes in well before it actually runs out. Talking about battery life, it is amazing. One battery lasts for days and since it's only one cell you can just have a reserve ready in the carrying pouch at all times.

The thing I actually don't like as much is the coldshoe-shockmount that is included in the box. It only has a camera screw at the bottom, not a microphone stand screw which, while I can see the reasoning behind it, still doesn't make a lot of sense to me because it's much easier to adapt from mic screw to cam screw than the other way around. The shock absorbing mechanism also doesn't seem to do that much in terms of shock absorption (it probably does help agains very small shaking and small movement, just not against when you bump into the stand for example) but it does keep the microphone locked very tightly which is nice.

All in all that's a very minor complaint. The mic clamp isn't really that bad and you can buy your own that holds it with elastic bands if you feel that's necessary. Considering the quality and versatility the MKE 600 gives you this should not be holding you back.

So about MKE 600:

Amazing sound quality.
Low cut filter.
Maximal rejection of side noise.
Phantom or battery powering.
Well-designed controls.
Works with DSLR cameras.
Light-weight.

Basically, Sennheiser MKE 600 is (one of) the best short shotgun microphone.

Microphone for professionals
RihaR 13.10.2022
I was looking for a microphone with which to write movies and do re-recordings. In fact, initially I wanted to take a Rode microphone, but my love leaned more towards the Sennheiser company, and therefore I decided to take this one. Due to the limited budget, it was necessary to choose the perfect option, and I found it!

The microphone works very well and copes with dialogues, I really like working with it, I just love this velvety and rich sound, even better than ntg3. Of course, many sound engineers can say that I'm talking complete nonsense here, but when I showed my processed work, no one could really tell what the sound was recorded on, so it works very well. If you want to work on a more directional sound then this is the Mkh-416, but again the Mk600 is ideal if you're mixing with lavalier mics.

Sometimes it happens that there may not be enough dynamic range at a particular volume, but this can always be controlled and corrected.

To be honest, I'm willing to work on this mic, the only reason I'd change it to a 416 is because of the low noise and better directivity.

And in conclusion, I can say that we shot a lot of different works, and on different recording devices. I can say that this mic is 110 percent usable and if you're good at processing then it's going to be one of the coolest instruments you're dealing with. I like it and would recommend it to both beginners and those who want to become a pro but don't have the budget for a 416.

i
Overall a great microphone
ivgeluid 02.12.2021
My first shotgun microphone, which I already have used in many productions in the field (outdoors and indoors). It has a great sound and not even considering the fact that its so affordable. By turning its canceling side, I have effectively been able to get clean sound even in very noicy locations. Lastly, when holding, its buid feels like its not gonna be the end of the world if it drops down!

Perfect

I needed a shotgun mic for some video work but unfortunately was limited in my budget.
This is used in a room with little soundproofing but sounds better than it has any right to given the cost of the competitors.
I’ve also used it outdoors plugged directly into my phone and the ambient sounds it records sound excellent with a little processing.

Superb for interviews and even singing
GregAB 24.02.2020
We are using the MKE 600 on a boom stand about 12-20 inches from the interviewee (the mic is off camera). The quality is superb. We also have a countryman lapel mic and in an A/B test it is difficult to tell the difference - though the MKE has the added advantage of no handling noise. Highly recommended.

A great sounding low cost shotgun microphone
rty09 19.04.2022
Bought for field recording on the recommendation of Transom.org. Will use for gathering fx in the field and in controlled environments and for recording location interviews.

This mic was recommended by Transom as being slightly fuller/warmer than a number of slightly lower cost alternatives. It was about 50 euro more than the next best, so I took a chance.

Very slim, metal housing, reassuringly well made. Comes with basic mic mount and xlr to 3.5mm jack adapter. Sounds great, good isolation from background. By comparison my other shotgun which was admittedly nearly 100 euro cheaper sounds more like a regular cardioid mic (which is ok in some settings)

Overall, very much recommended

A
Excellent video mic, voice recorindg AND orchestra recordings
Anonymous 28.03.2014
After having tried out some other mics such as the the Rode NTG 2 and ME 66, I bought the MKE 600 for it is not as heavy as the ME 66 (with k6 system). I use the mic for video recordings and even for studio voice subbing. With just few frequency adjustiments it can keep up with most large diaphragm mics for the same price.
I used the MKE 600 hanging for recording a theater play with orchestra and it worked just fine, although I would not recommend this for professional purposes, it it a decent and nice to have condenser for multi purpose use. The battery lasts forever. It would be nice if it came with a clip for mic stand though.
