A violin with fine details

Geige Scala Vilagio F.H. Maggini with Inlayed Back von vorne

Giovanni Paolo Maggini worked as a violin maker from around 1600 to 1632, and his earlier instruments are noted for creating astonishing sounds despite their simple craftsmanship. The Scala Vilagio F.H. Maggini violin, which features exquisitely crafted and eyecatching inlays on the back, is made in Germany by master violin maker Florian Hertzsch, adhering to the original specifications as closely as possible. Precisely worked optical details such as signs of wear lend a very authentic look to the instrument, which is equipped with premium Pirastro strings and comes in a high-quality GEWA violin case.

Precision down to the last detail

Scala Vilagio attaches great importance to authenticity and quality. This is highlighted by the high-quality woods used for the Scala Vilagio F.H. Maggini with Inlayed Back: Aged alpine spruce (Picea abies) for the top, high-quality flamed maple (Acer pseudoplatanus) for the rest of the body, and ebony (Diospyros crassiflora) for the fingerboard and the fittings. During the violin-making process, the woods are matched and tested at specific frequencies in order to achieve high sound precision and a robust structure at the same time. Final sound adjustment is then made via the soundpost and the bridge. The oil-based amber varnish, which resembles the varnishing used for the historic model, is applied on the wood as a very thin layer in order to reduce the effect on its vibration characteristics to a minimum.

About Scala Vilagio

Scala Vilagio is a brand that is exclusive to Thomann and offers-high quality bowed string instruments as well as fully professional accessories. The products are made exclusively from sustainably grown European woods that have been naturally dried over a long period of time. The instruments are precisely built by master violin makers according to the same traditional methods as their most legendary forebears: Besides Stradivarius and Guarneri del Gesu, the range also includes instruments by other grandmasters such as Nicolo Amati and Giovanni Paolo Maggini, and each one brings its own tonal palette and lets you get your hands on a piece of instrument making history. The extensive nature of Scala Vilagio’s range is thanks to the large number of instrument makers involved, who are based in Upper Franconia, Middle Franconia, the Carpathians, and the Czech Republic (among other places) and who build the Scala Vilagio instruments in the tradition of the old masters.

Full sound and exquisite design

The Scala Vilagio F.H. Maggini with Inlayed Back creates a decidedly full and dark sound due to its large body and heavily arched top. However, the scale is no longer than players would expect to find, which means that the body volume provides a rich tone without affecting the playing feel, and this in turn makes the violin sound very pleasant during solos and gives it sufficient presence in an orchestra without producing shrill sounds. The violin is supplied with a high-quality case and a certificate, and for those who would like to complement their instrument, Scala Vilagio also offers a range of matching bows in various designs. The violin case that is included in the scope of delivery has a carrying strap, a lock, and an accessory compartment.
