With the Mixon 8 Pro, Reloop presents a modern and improved version of the successful Reloop Mixon 4 DJ controller. The controller is delivered unlocked for use with Serato DJ Pro and also supports Algoriddim djay Pro AI (plug & play), but can additionally be used as a standalone mixer, allowing music to be played via analogue sources such as CD players or turntables. The Mixon 8 Pro also supports DVS operation with Serato DJ Pro and djay Pro Al and delivers comprehensive information such as BPM, playback position, remaining/elapsed time, and pitch range via its on-jog displays. Another cool feature of the Mixon 8 Pro is the docking slot built into its upper surface, which can house an iPad complete with DJ software, giving tablet DJs a convenient overview akin to that provided by a standalone device and lending the Mixon 8 Pro particularly to working with iOS devices.
The improved jog wheel design of the Mixon 8 Pro with touch-sensitive gun metal platters enables precise music control and, thanks to the aforementioned on-jog displays, which provide users with clear information on the track, the need for fleeting glances at a laptop or iPad is reduced. The virtual stylus display offers additional security during scratching, while the four robust FX paddles, which provide instant control of software effects, will also prove the perfect tool for scratch DJs. As an industry first, each channel on this controller has an FX paddle - and it is here that Reloop’s extensive experience in the DJ battle game really proves advantageous. In addition, each mixing channel features a three-band EQ and bipolar filtering for intensive sound manipulation.
The Mixon 8 Pro's flexible connectivity for turntables or media players permits the simultaneous use of digital and analogue sources. The two microphone inputs with talk-over function can be individually adjusted using the integrated EQ controls, while the dual USB audio interface not only enables the simultaneous use of two laptops or an iPad but also facilitates a seamless handover between two DJs. The Mixon 8 Pro additionally offers USB-C device support for iPads (USB-C for iOS only) with superior audio quality and low latency. Furthermore, DJs with a preference for transport buttons and pitch faders on the outside of their controllers will find the Mixon 8 Pro a particularly superior example of this increasingly rare design configuration.
Reloop was founded in 1996 by a young group of music technology experts, who initially ran a light and sound rental company for events in the early 1990s and were closely associated with the Münster Cosmic Club, firmly establishing Reloop from the beginning as a "by DJs, for DJs" company with close ties to the Techno, House, and Scratch/Hip Hop scene. Today, the Münster-based company is a global player and renowned manufacturer of DJ and production equipment of all types and also enjoys an excellent reputation internationally for its innovative products of exceptional quality at reasonable prices. Reloop has always been in step with the times, offering a wide range of DJ controllers, turntables, mixers, headphones, bags, cases, and a multitude of accessories to ensure that DJs have access to everything they need for their performances.
The performance section of the Mixon 8 Pro provides access to eight colour-coded performance modes, including exclusive modes offering creative digital controller functions. The 16 large pads with multi-coloured backlighting adapt to the chosen performance mode, and the Mixon 8 Pro provides smooth connectivity and software integration straight from the box. Thanks to its plug-and-play technology, DJs can get up and running straight away on up to four decks using Serato DJ Pro or Algoriddim djay Pro AI. Added to this is the highly attractive price, which makes the Reloop Mixon 8 Pro more than just an alternative to the premium controllers from other manufacturers.
FX paddles
"FX paddles" are not what their name might suggest, that is to say, tricked-out rowing paddles. In fact, they are extremely robust, large toggle switches that are mainly found on battle mixers and provide a super-intuitive means of switching on effects for brief or ongoing periods. The days of searching for the FX button are long gone: The DJ’s hand sweeps past during scratching and cutting, practically taking the FX paddle with it in passing, just like a driver operating an indicator lever. An absolute must for ultra-cool routines and combined with the smooth-running cross and mix faders, the precise jog wheels, and the highly sensitive performance pads, the FX paddles make the Reloop Mixon 8 Pro the perfect partner for digital DJs with refined mixing skills - and of course for anyone looking to become one.
