Synchronised for AVB and Dante

At first glance, the Presonus AVB-D16 digital network endpoint is an inconspicuous network tool that can serve as a bridge to connect AVB and Dante protocols without the need for identical sample rates. The device is equipped for this purpose with a maximum of 16 AVB and Dante inputs and outputs in each case, while connectivity is ensured courtesy of an ethernetCON socket serving as an AVB port and two ethernetCON sockets serving as primary and secondary data ports. LEDs prove practical in enabling the user to determine whether network link and network activities are in progress, and the robust metal casing offers reliable protection for the compact assistant, even in touring environments.

Cascadable with a multitude of remote options

The Presonus AVB-D16 supports sample rates of up to 96kHz when used exclusively with the Dante network and works with sample rates of up to 48kHz when AVB and Dante are used in tandem. The cascade function of the network box also permits the use of multiple Presonus AVB-D16 devices if a greater number of channels is required. There are various convenient ways of controlling the Presonus AVB-D16 remotely, either by using the Presonus Universal Control software, which is available free of charge, the touchscreen of a StudioLive console, or the touch control of a Presonus UC Surface. For professional applications, the device can be remotely controlled using the Dante Control software from Audinate.

Seamless device connection for Presonus users

The Presonus AVB-D16 offers users who work with NSB stage boxes, EarMix 16M monitor mixers, or StudioLive Series III mixers the opportunity to create a network without having to resort to sample rate conversion. Despite the substantial differences between AVB and Dante protocols, the Presonus AVB-D16 not only enables event organisers, rental companies, and engineers to seamlessly network their devices but also to add more channels, as owners of the StudioLive Series III mixers can use the Presonus AVB-D16 to expand their mixing console by 16 Dante inputs/outputs via the plug-and-play function. This not only generates savings by negating the need to purchase additional expansion cards but also reduces the amount of installation work involved.

About Presonus

Presonus is a US company founded in 1995 by Jim Odom and Brian Smith in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. The firm designs hardware and software at both professional and more affordable levels for musicians and producers. Presonus first made a splash in the mid-1990s with the DCP8, an eight-channel analogue compressor/limiter/gate with fader and mute automation that could be digitally controlled by MIDI. In the early 2000s followed a series of microphone amplifiers and the first audio interfaces for the then-emerging home studio scene. Today, the company’s product range includes audio interfaces, microphone preamps, digital mixing consoles, and studio monitors as well as the established DAW software Studio One.

Connects stage boxes, monitor mixers, and FOH desks

The Presonus AVB-D16 enables the mutual synchronisation of NSB-series stage boxes, EarMix 16M monitor mixers, and StudioLive Series III mixers from both network worlds. This applies regardless of whether the signals to be processed use isolated digital clocks, as the Presonus AVB-D16 comes with an integrated adjustment function for asynchronous sample rates, which renders any conversion of these rates by the device unnecessary. The result: Dropouts and artefacts are avoided. Thanks to a width of just 15cm (6"), three of these compact network assistants can be easily accommodated side by side in 19" racks on one height unit. A weight of just under 740g per device also facilitates transportation, making this network endpoint ideal for both permanent installations and tours.
