A
Good quality interface but tricky with sysex
Anonymous 12.08.2016
I bought this interface to extend my available MIDI ports. The build quality is very good, it has aluminium housing, the connectors have a smooth connection and the unit has a rugged, solid feel. The led indicators are a great addition although the blue power on led's light is very strong which is a bit uncomfortable in a dark room. You can use some tape to dampen it or put something in front of it though.

You just have to plug it in, no setup is needed. Which on the one hand is a good thing but on the other hand it has its limitations. As the unit does not have it's own driver be prepared to experience problems when sending complex sysex messages, especially to and from vintage gear - it just won't work. The class compliant driver in Windows can't handle it as confirmed by customer support at Miditech. Although I found a workaround solution which makes it work perfectly with sysex. I told them about it so if you have problems just contact their support and they will help. You basically have to install a free MIDI utility and a virtual MIDI cable and make some easy settings, no black computer magic there indeed.

For other, basic MIDI tasks it's perfect, no problems with note, program and control change messages. I'm happy with it after all given the low price point but it would be much better to have a proper, dedicated driver for reliable sysex operation.

Works perfectly also for sending sysex messages, there also exists a modified firmware on Github to give it even more features comparable to much more expensive midi interfaces and to use multiple of the same midi interfaces in Windows, this is normally not possible because Windows would detect the device as the same if you would use multiple of the same USB midi devices.

G
Midi interface, a good looking one.

I'm using this Miditech midi interface for my microkorg synth, it can help you communicating two or more instruments between each other (microkorg and kaossilator pro) or instrument - computer.
I have used it also for my Sonuus (Bass-Sonuus-Miditech-CPU).
Comparing the price to others is relatively cheap if considering the quantity of midi ins and midi outs that it offers. I really like the metal housing, feels strong and durable, good looking and I love the rounded corners, it simply looks very elegant and different from other midi interfaces. It comes with a very cool usb cable, transparent.
For consumers outside Europe, I encourage you to ask Thomman team to dispatch your products with UPS, it is possible for the same price as long as it doesn't exceed 5 kilos, UPS is much better, faster, safer than DHL, I have plenty of complaints to say about DHL.

S
Does what it has to do.

I installed it once and haven't looked at it ever since. (>1year now)
That thing does what it has to do and never failed on me.
Build as a tank.
The only thing that is slightly annoying is the bleu led light for the power. It is too bright and attracts a lot of attention when a stage is dark ;-), nothing a small piece of tape can't fix ;-)
