First time buyer of these pick-ups, they are fitted to a self-built solid-body guitar. Chosen for their light weight (they are very light indeed..!) and their coil-tapping possibilities, they conform to standard humbucker routing, and so could easily be used as replacements in any guitar equipped with such. They came supplied with mounting screws and a plastic tube for height adjustment; this will be replaced with a more traditional spring, as there are to be no plastic parts in this guitar (exception is made for the wiring insulation..!).
A chrome finish was chosen only one pick-up was protected with a film, but that's an insignificant detail, as they're easily buffed up with a soft cloth, and will doubtless suffer worse once the guitar is played in earnest..!
No deception for the sound; clear, full frquency with ringing overtones, bringing out the best of the luthery. Their striking graphical aspect is a bonus, complimenting the natural finish of the guitar.
Altogether, these pick-ups deserve to be better known, and are, although not the lowest price, certainly as interesting to consider as many costing far more. The next bass build will definitely be using a bass set of similar conception. Very satisfied; will buy again.
We have many guitars and basses, including a Nighthawk, Tele, Hofners and many more, with many differing pick-ups, so are quite used to hearing various tones. These Lace pick-ups are completely at home in our collection.
