I had contemplated trying a hide drumhead on one of my snares for a while now, so I bit the bullet on a 14" heavy kangaroo head. The head seems well made, but after a few months of use, I can't really say I recommend it. After trying it on a few snares, in different tunings, my finding is that it is extremely hard to tune evenly. In the center of the head, there is a tougher, harder part, that makes it impossible to achieve a good tuning at the corresponding lugs. Also, despite it being the "heavy" version, I fond the head to stretch so much that, in order to achieve a medium high tuning, I was left with almost no rim above the head...
Maybe I got a bad unit, but for for me the head is useless...
So, expensive experiment...
I'm reading quite a few excellent reviews here, so maybe I got unlucky. But at almost €80, this shouldn't be te case...
