An offset classic with a modern twist

Electric Guitar Harley Benton JA-60CC Seafoam Green front view

The Harley Benton JA-60CC, shown here in its Seafoam Green finish, is aimed at guitarists who are in search of a true legend at an affordable price. This guitar features an offset-style basswood body and a roasted maple neck with a slim C profile and 21-fret laurel fingerboard that ensures a comfortable playing feel, and it comes loaded with a pair of Roswell single coil pickups that provide a full sound even in the bridge position. The combination of a classic early 60s-style finish and chrome hardware (complete with Kluson-style machine heads and a Tune-o-Matic bridge and stop-bar tailpiece) also ensures that it has the looks to match its distinctive and characteristic sound.

Perfect for Indie and Co.

The Harley Benton JA-60CC pays tribute to some of the classic guitars of the past and, while it will capably handle Jazz, will feel most at home in Indie and Alternative music. Its simple yet effective circuitry includes a three-way toggle switch for pickup selection as well as master volume and tone controls to allow guitarists to adjust the sound according to their personal preferences, and both the conveniently placed controls and the two Roswell pickups are installed on a cream-coloured pickguard that covers about half of the guitar’s top. Speaking of the pickups: Despite their similar appearance, these are not P90s but rather “conventional” single coils, albeit with wider, flatter windings that provide a richer and deeper sound than their taller, narrower counterparts. The fixed bridge and the reliable machine heads that adorn the natural-finish headstock in turn ensure reliable tuning stability.

Alternative sounds on a budget

Fans of Alternative or Surf music who have to get by on a small budget will certainly appreciate the Harley Benton JA-60CC’s affordable price. The guitar offers a great sound for Indie music thanks to its particularly flat, wide single coils, while the offset body’s deep cutaways mean that its impressive playing comfort does not end at the 12th fret. The JA-60CC’s excellent build quality can rival that of more high-priced instruments, so players can rest assured that they have made a solid investment and can enjoy the instrument for many years to come. And alongside the guitar’s distinctive sound, the authentic 1960s Seafoam Green finish will also make it a guaranteed eyecatcher both at home and on stage.

It will feel especially at home in Alternative, Indie, and Surf Rock music, where its two Roswell single coils will deliver clean sounds with plenty of low end as well as dynamic overdriven tones. Needless to say, the JA-60CC will sound best when combined with an appropriate amplifier – and of course Harley Benton also offers a range of high-quality amps at very fair prices, so it is also well worth checking out Thomann’s attractive bundle offers!

Amazing!!! Made some Mods to make it out of this world.

Great quality. Believe the hype with the HBs. I liked it so much I bought it in blue as well. It sounded really good out of the box. No issues. Everything was perfect. Neck feels great, etc.

I did these mods, and it is now heavenly. The overall sound was good, but I wanted to get it sounding a bit more JazzMaster-ish.

It came with A250k pots for volume and tone. Replaced with A500k (audio) pots. The volume should have a B500k (linear), but I didn't have one at the time. I also didn't go with a 1M like old Fenders because I didn't want it too sound too ice picky. For treble bleed I added 1000 pF capacitor and 100k Ohm resistor (Kinman). It basically rolls off very similar (not exact) to a linear pot believe it or not. I am fine with it as is. Though I will use a B500k next time for volume. I used a .022uF capacitor for the tone pot.

Added a Duesenberg Trem II.... a must for this guitar. As well as a roller bridge.

Foiled the inside and back of pick guard. 95% of hum is completely gone now. Even in a room with lots of EF from LED lighting.

Oiled the neck, re-stringed and setup. Tuners and nut seem good, so I didn't change them. Going to add a kill switch just for fun, and change the knobs.

Since the mods, I can get nice chime-y tones. With the tone all the way on 10, it is bright to point of maybe a tad too much for some people. Simply roll it to 8 or 9 and it takes the edge off. Rolling the tone down to 5 or 6 gets you back to the stock tone.

The pickups sound great. I would not bother changing them. If you are handy, I would recommend changing the pots at the very least. You won't be disappointed.

its clean tone is my favourite out of my 7 guitars, its nice and bell like. my issue is it doesn’t go great with distortion, i use a boss ds-1 so that could be the issue LOL. the guitar is very pleasing aesthetically and im contemplating picking up another ja-60cc in a different colour, maybe inca silver or shell pink. to wrap things up, its an amazing guitar for its price, i would say the clean tone compares with that of a 700-1000 dollar guitar. keep up the great work thomann/harley benton

Bought this guitar for really cool looks

The hope was it would be the normal Harley Benton quality and it was. Meaning, it matched guitars that were triple it’s price.

I’m not a professional musician but have played long enough to know when a guitars play-ability far out ways it’s value in price and this one does

Excellent guitar for all kinds of music

Since a long time I wanted a Jazzmaster style guitar, but didn't want to spend 350-500 euros for a Squier Jazzmaster. Harley Benton just released those in great new colors, the seafoam is just divine.
I can't say anything bad about the guitar - it is a quality instrument, don't let the price fool you.
I've read all the reviews I could find and everyone said the same - how great it was set up from the box, no fret issues or anything. And they are right to some degree. Yes, it was set up ok, playable with the action a bit too high for my liking. It was 0.8 inches on the low E, which is normal. I lowered it to 0.5 low E and 0.4 high E. I found there are uneven frets as there is a fret buzzfrom the first fret up to the 13-14 fret especially on the G and the D strings. Now, 0.5 is pretty low action and I did not expected that it will go perfect with just lowering the bridge, so it will need just a little bit of fret leveling to become perfectly playable instrument.
That said - I had to do the same on my 600 eur Hagstrom guitar. A friend had to do it on his 2000 eur Gibson.
The neck feels so smooth - not too thin, but not too thick either and I'm a guy who complaints about bad necks. This one is perfect.
No paint issues, the knobs feel good, the tuners are OK and hold great...All in all - BUY IT, there is no better guitar for twice or thrice the price out there.
Next in line is the Harley Benton SG Deluxe in Pelham blue. Can't wait to buy this beauty!
