Wireless freedom

Harley Benton AirBorne 2.4Ghz Instrument wireless sender and receiver

The AirBorne Instrument is a digital wireless system that frees guitarists and bassists from the restrictions of using a cable and, with a radius of up to 30 metres, allows them to move freely to even the farthest corners of the stage. The rechargeable 500mAh lithium batteries provide around 4.5 hours of playing time, and of course this astonishingly affordable system conforms to the latest 2.4GHz standard. The AirBorne Instrument is supplied as a complete set for instrumentalists that comprises a rechargeable transmitter and receiver as well as the corresponding USB charging cable.

Digital wireless on a budget

The AirBorne Instrument is a wireless transmitter/receiver system for guitar, bass, and other instruments that offers a selection of four transmission frequencies in the 2.4GHz range. Transmission takes place digitally across the whole frequency range with a 24-bit/48kHz resolution and with less than 5ms latency. The transmitter and receiver both operate without a power supply, and both are housed in a compact casing with swivel-mounted 6.3mm (1/4”) jack plugs that can be securely folded away. Thanks to its 500mAh lithium batteries, the AirBorne Instrument system provides up to 4.5 hours of playing time, which is maximised by both an “Auto-Sleep” and a “Wake Up” function. What is more, the USB charging cable has a double connector, which allows the transmitter and receiver to be charged at the same time.

Nothing to hold you back

The AirBorne Instrument is a plug-and-play set aimed at guitarists and bassists who regularly perform on stage or in other live environments, and it covers a range of around 30 metres in any room, thus unchaining the player from the confines of a cable. Simply plug the transmitter in and away you go. The selection of four frequencies gives each player in the band their own channel without crosstalk, and the 2.4GHz band transmits the entire frequency range with a 24-bit resolution and a minimal latency of below 5ms. The transmitter and receiver both feature an LED battery indicator, so you will always know exactly when it is time for a recharge. You have to mind one thing: It's made for instruments with passive pickups only.

About Harley Benton

Since 1998, the Harley Benton brand has been catering for the needs of numerous guitarists and bassists. In addition to an extensive range of stringed instruments, Thomann's house brand also offers a wide choice of amplifiers, speakers, effect pedals, and other accessories. In total, the range includes over 1,500 products. Built by established names in the industry, all Harley Benton products combine quality and reliability at attractive and affordable prices. The continuous expansion of the range ensures that Harley Benton always provides new, exciting, and innovative products that keep players perfectly in tune with the musical world, day after day.

The stage is yours

The AirBorne Instrument is tailor-made to be used on stage: It means you are no longer tied to your amp or pedalboard and thus have the freedom to move anywhere on the stage. Dance, jump, spin, do whatever you want – without tangled cables or tripping hazards for anyone else in the band. In other words: This digital wireless system allows you to interact with your audience better than ever before while still enjoying excellent sound quality. Eliminating cables is beneficial in other situations too, of course, like in the rehearsal room and whenever cables are not visually desirable, e.g. in the field of performance art.

Broke after 3 months of home use
MC MC 01.05.2020
Pros:
This is a very compact, easy to use unit. It's not feature heavy, but wireless units with numerous bells and whistles tend to cost several times this price.

I had no problems with the buffer that's built into the system altering my tone in a noticeable way.

The range is decent, and more than what most people will need. If you need more, you're playing big enough venues that you should already have a higher-end unit.

Cons:
It definitely cuts in and out during play. It tends to be brief, but it happens enough that I wouldn't want to gig with it.

The real dealbreaker for me, though, was that it stopped working after 3 months. I never left home with it, because I wouldn't play live with something that cuts in and out like this unit does. I live alone, so I know nothing happened to it. I used it one day, then put it away, and when I went back the next day to use it again, I couldn't get a signal. It's fully charged, lights flashing, transmitter / receiver are paired, but – no sound.

I've contacted Thomann; hopefully they can help.

P
Freedom!!!
Panos! 27.05.2021
Its amazing the sense of freedom with these! I'm new in the world of wireless guitar systems, and I feel truly liberated from the strains of cables! 'Til now I only use them at home, no rehearsals and of course no Live use because of Covid-19. But I will surely try them as soon as possible! Sometimes the sound has fluctuations, like hiccups (or tiny interruptions), specially when the home wifi is on, but changing a channel or two and the problem always disappears. The tone for me is great, and when I plug straight in the amp or on my pedalboard and play, I find it magnificent. But for a tone "purist" it may be a problem, cause when I A/B them with a quality cable, then I can very slightly hear but more importantly I can feel a small degredation of my tone. Is it enough to put me off? Not in a million years! Would I use them to record an important piece? No, never! Will I use them on my next rehearsals and - hopefully soon - try them also on a Live situation with my band? Definitely yes!

LF
Good for price, but with some Signal Strength issues?
Luis Franco 30.04.2023
Everything seemed fine, at the beginning, I tried it home and it was working well, I was impressed; sound was alright, cool investment perhaps. I took it to a small gig, which I thought was a good test for live situations, it worked well in the first one but then after a second session close to the end, the battery ran out, I plug back a cable to continue and that's when I noticed - the signal wasn't strong enough while playing - since I played most of the gig I didn't notice until I plugged back a cable or perhaps as the battery slowly run out, it was losing strength, but all of a sudden I could hear myself better... I thought: well that's a 1 for cables - 0 for the wireless!

My conclusion so far, like many others, I think it's good for playing at home, in a studio, rehearsals or perhaps some small gig that doesn't required such a big performance , casual gigs, but it is risky to take it to more serious live gigs, since there's the possibility it will stop working while playing without a warning.

t
Great for a home studio environment
tomtomssi 04.06.2019
I use this at my home studio between my guitars and amp heads.

The range is nice and it works even through walls. I usually play in a pretty small room next to a lot of gear and electronics but I have not noticed any interference.

The sound quality is clear and I have not noticed any difference compared to a regular cable.

The build quality is okay. This is not flimsy but its still plastic so I would not want to drop these on a hard surface. After a few months I started to hear some rattling inside like something had come loose but these still work.

The on/off switch could use a re-design. Its too similar to the channel switch and quite often I accidentally use the wrong switch.

The transmitter runs out of battery a lot faster than the receiver. The description tells you this has up to 6 hours of battery life but I don't feel like the transmitter can last for 6 hours of constant play.

Overall, this thing is great. It has given me a lot of mobility inside a rather small studio where cords can get tangled quite easily.
