Committed to tradition

Fender is a company that truly embodies tradition, so it’s only natural that the Rumble 40 bass combo delivers a powerful, confident sound while offering a broad palette of modern and vintage tones in a single, compact housing. Its modern Class D power amplifier keeps the combo surprisingly lightweight, making it easy to carry to rehearsals and small gigs without effort. For beginners who still need an instrument or a few accessories, the Fender Rumble 40 also works beautifully in various starter bundles that make stepping into the world of bass both simple and motivating.

Useful features

The Rumble 40 combines a 10" speaker with a lively 40-watt Class D amplifier, forming a solid foundation that can be shaped to suit the player's taste through a range of well thought-out features. Its four-band EQ section lets players tailor the bass, low mids, high mids, and treble with precision, while three dedicated switches add further character by brightening the top end, introducing a warm vintage flavour, or dialling back the mids with a gentle boost of both the bass and treble. For players who enjoy a touch of grit, the overdrive can be engaged either by button or footswitch, and its intensity and volume can be adjusted to sit just right in the mix. There is also a DI output that makes it easy to connect the amp directly to a mixing desk or audio interface, expanding its use beyond practice spaces. Covered with black vinyl and with a silver front grille, the Fender Rumble 40 also carries a look that feels authentic and gives the combo a presence that already hints at something much larger.

Flexibility right from the start

The Fender Rumble 40 is designed for beginners who want a powerful, versatile sound from the very first notes, offering budding bass players plenty of scope to start exploring and gradually find a sound that is truly theirs. It will also appeal to experienced players seeking a compact, space-saving practice amp that still delivers flexibility and a broader set of connections than many small combos provide. Its DI output in turn makes it easy to plug directly into a computer or audio interface, turning home recording into a smooth, accessible option for anyone who wants to capture ideas with ease.

About Fender

Fender is without doubt one of the most legendary guitar and amplifier manufacturers of all time. The company was founded in 1946 by its namesake Leo Fender († 1991), whose innovative ideas brought a breath of fresh air into the musical world. His Telecaster, Stratocaster, Precision Bass, and Jazz Bass are not only classics – they also continue to shape the styles of musicians in countless genres to this day. Timeless Fender amplifier models such as the Bassman, Twin, Deluxe, and Princeton also enjoy a stellar reputation. Besides maintaining its classic product portfolio, however, the company is also constantly developing new products that make Fender a driving force in today’s music industry.

Effective practice at any time

When starting to play an instrument, it's often tempting to continue practising late into the night, but this can quickly lead to problems if parents, siblings, flatmates, or neighbours begin to complain. The Fender Rumble 40 addresses this problem with a headphone jack that automatically mutes the speaker as soon as the headphones are plugged in, making late-night practice possible without disturbing anyone. To make practice sessions as effective as possible, the combo can also be connected to a sound source such as a drum machine or mobile phone via the AUX input, allowing players to jam along to their favourite songs, drum loops, or a simple click track.

Great studio/rehearsal amp
Janice 02.12.2017
This has been in use in my studio for about a year now and it's done very well. I've used it it playing with a full band (with electronic kit) for rehearsals and such, as well as when recording, and also I use it as a practice amp.

The amp is astonishingly light which is great if you need to move it or take it anywhere. (The postman, who plays guitar too, asked me what it was when it arrived - he said he saw Fender on the box so he thought it was an amp but it was too light so it couldn't be. I told him it was a bass amp and he didn't believe me at first! ) Nevertheless the cabinet is very solid, not at all flimsy and doesn't suffer from rattles, buzzes or other cabinet noises, even when it's turned up loud.

The amp will go quiet enough for "bedroom use" and loud enough without breakup to comfortably play along with a drum kit as long as the drummer isn't too hard hitting. it copes fine in a medium sized room playing along with electronic drum kit and a full band. It wouldn't have the power or headroom to work in a large room or with a loud band. Small low volume gigs would be ok and for that, it's small size and light weight would be a huge bonus.

A decent range of sounds are available and I was surprised at the amount of low end that would come out of a small, light cabinet with a small speaker. At sensible volumes the response is very even, but when it's turned up toward it's maximum volume things get a little less smooth. For high volume high gain kinda stuff you're probably going to want more power and tone shaping capabilities but for just about everything else you'd do on a 4 string bass this will get you into the general area and sound pretty good. With the deeper notes on a 5 string bass it copes well at moderate volume,

The line out socket is very useful and gives a workable sound for recording, it's a good option to have if you just want something quick Would be useful if playing live with a full PA system too.

All in all, a very handy and pretty decent sounding amp for home, rehearsal and studio use. No it's not an Ampeg SVT, but an SVT couldn't do the jobs this does!

Nice and light with great sound.
Dub77 06.09.2019
The new Fender rumble is advertised as a new lighter design.. they weren’t lying, its a fantastic amp. The rumble 40 is ideal for home practice or gigging small venues. Its not overly loud for home practice but does have a headphone jack to keep the neighbors happy.

Pros.. easy to carry, nice clear sound with easy to use controls. Design is nice to look at as a piece of furniture.

Cons.. can’t really think of any.. if you need more power, buy the 100,200 or 500.

Thomann were excellent as always.

R
Great, Great Amp and I love the sound and how easy it is to carry.
Ronsthebg 13.07.2021
I purchased the Fender Rumple to solve 2 issues with both rehearsal and live performances. First for rehearsal, the issue was our rehearsal location did not provide me with ample sound for my bass and the powered speakers I was using just didn't sound good for me. Second, live performances, When we play live, our sound guy just doesn't quit get BASS and Bass sound. Our setup required me to hear my bass through a monitor with a mix of vocals and a few instruments. the monitor are good quality but the bass again didn't sound good to me, plus the monitor setup with the other players and singers, seemed that there was an empty space in the overall sound. The Fender Rumble 40, split with a DI for the mixer and the Amp combination solved all of the issues for me. The Fender Rumble sound is full and amazing for such a small amp. I was very surprised over the quality and how light it is to carry. I use it 3 times a week and carry it to with me when I walk to rehearsal and to the church where I play every week. It is a perfect solution for a light weight but great sounding amp.
