The King of Big Muffs!
Anonymous 01.10.2016
This pedal is an amazing deal! I have always been into big muffs but the original design and variants are not always very responsive when you're dialing in your tone.

What I love about this pedal is that you get the classic NYC Muff sound if you only use the 3 classic knobs in the normal mode.
For added versitility, the bass boost function really gives my single coils depth.
The attack really helps bringing clarity into chordal work. I also use fuzz pedals while playing some chords or filling certain passages and with a regular Big Muff, there would be no note clarity for more complex chords. Not with this unit, chords are much clearer with the attack knob maxed.
Due to the nature ofbig muffs, they are really noisey. With the added gate knob, this is no longer a problem. It is extremely sensitive and I usually use it before 3 o'clock. If I want really prominent staccatofuzz sound, I just pump up the gate knob and get really gated fuzz sounds.

Another inovative feature I really like to use is the Mids part of this pedal. I have at least three ways I like to use it: As a normal mid boost, as a clarity enhancer or as a dramatic effect. You can really sweep through those mid frequencies and dial just the right amount.

If used with an expression pedal, it yelds some some frequency sweeping sounds just like a wah would. I usually set it and leave it but you can change it on the fly should you wish.

I woudn't change anything to this pedal. It's clear, noise free, fairly priced , has a low current draw and is realiable and durable.Amazing sound and quality we have come to expect from Electro Harmonix.

A Gem [EDIT]

It's a Big Muff Pi with some extra goodies that you'll find to be quite tasty. If you have previously owned a Big Muff, you'll end end up scratching your head thinking: "why in all hell didn't they make this pedal before?"

There is a lot of tone sculpting with this one to keep you entertained and then some.
There is also an extra IN for an expression pedal to make things even more fun, In essence it gives you not only the Big Muff sound but a Fuzz Wah as well. If you leave the expression pedal parked when activating the secondary channel you get a second fuzz to jump to. e

Do your self and your tone a favor and get this pedal. You will not regret it.

UPDATE:

Sadly, the pedal died after a few rounds of use. And here's the funny thing:

at the time I bought it, I didn't have a pedalboard, so I used it on my desk and activated and deactivated it with my thumb.
The pedal started acting up [it wouldn't start immediately and the fuzz would ramp up slowly till it reached the gain I set it for. Then, it just died.

It's sad really because it sounded really great.

Thomann was kind enough to offer me a return in money or a chance to pick another product and I ended up picking the Ditto x2 back then [an excellent choice for a looper newb, I might add].

If I was certain that EHX had their QC in good order I would buy more of their products [by the way, I love their products and ideas] but I simply don't trust their build quality.

Excellent.Ive heard about the Big Muff for years but never bothered to check one out.I was pleasently suprised by the sound of this pedal. I play a downtuned Gibson Les Paul Baritone and it sounds really good through this pedal.I use it through a Laney Lionhart i also purchased from Thoman and together it is a great combination. You can get great Stoner/Rock/Doom sounds and even good metal sounds if you play around with it.The controls are easy to work out and are a great addition to the ones on a normal Big Muff pedal. They give excellent control to your sound and make it easy to create a great tone.I highly recommend this pedal. As always the service from Thoman is great.

Powerful, direct sound

This was my third muff in my pedal collection, after previously getting the Green Russian and Rams Head (both of these are great too, but I need other external pedals to shape their sound to my taste). I’m looking for these long sustaining lead tones. Usually fuzz tends to get brittle and losing tightness which I don’t really like, but this pedal has great mid frequency control, which can tighten those low ends and make melodies cut through the mix. I boost it sometimes with a tube screamer or with an EQ pedal to further sound shaping and it has become my main lead pedal. I usually plug it into a slightly overdriven clean pedal platform amp, like the Marshall Origin 20 head, or Laney and it’s pure joy to my ears.
