Compact stand-alone DJ workstation

The Denon DJ Prime 2 is the compact, two-channel version of Denon’s larger flagship model, the DJ Prime 4. The Prime 2 includes all the essential features of its bigger brother and represents a complete stand-alone DJ workstation that can be operated without being connected to a computer. DJs can load music from a USB stick, an SD card, or the SSD that can be integrated as an option, or they can stream it from a private Dropbox account or from popular streaming services via Wi-Fi, which makes a virtually unlimited song library available. For performing, the DJ Prime 2 provides two complete channels with three-band EQ, two microphone channels, effects, and cue buttons. The AUX input allows an external device such as a mobile phone, tablet computer, or CD player to be connected and the signal to be cued and adjusted in volume. And what is more, the mix can then be recorded onto a USB stick.

The big little brother

The compact Denon DJ Prime 2 can fit in wherever the DJ Prime 4 is simply too big, making it ideal for bars, bedrooms, and after-work parties – and of course for DJs with heavy touring schedules who need a perfect compromise between power and portability. The console is also ideal for use as a preparation system at home, since it features all of the essential functions of Denon’s Engine Prime system and is virtually no larger than a software controller. Two fully equipped player interfaces with high-precision 6” jog wheels that feature scratching capability as well as cover art, loop, and play head display options make professional-quality work possible. DJs can access their entire music collection by integrating an optional SSD or stream their music to the DJ Prime 2 from Beatport, Soundcloud, or Tidal via Wi-Fi.

Compact on the outside, complete on the inside

The Denon DJ Prime 2 provides all the essential features of its bigger brother, the Denon DJ Prime 4. The control elements have a high-quality look and feel and are intuitively laid out. Each channel is equipped with eight performance pads that make the rapid selection of cue points and the creative use of loops and beat juggling child’s play. Beat matching can of course be done automatically using the Sync buttons or manually via the high-precision 100 mm pitch faders, which cover a range of 4 to 100%. The master tempo function ensures that pitch remains constant even when extreme tempo changes are made, and the pitch can be adjusted in semitone increments for harmonic mixing. The mix can then be recorded onto any medium connected to the Prime 2. And since the Prime 2 combines the full range of components in a single device, it can be connected and set up ready to go in no time at all.

About Denon

The Japanese-American company Denon was founded in 1910 and established itself as a leading brand in the 1930s. It has long stood for ground-breaking technological innovations that were frequently world firsts in their time. Denon's passion for invention has produced many remarkable technologies, including the first professionally usable recording device for gramophone records (1939), the first Japanese stereo records and stereo systems (1951), and the first PCM recorder, which was based on the same principle as today's CDs (1970). In 1982, Denon launched the first CD player for home use, the DCD-2000, another milestone among its already widespread innovations. Today the company belongs to D&M Holdings Inc. and is famous for its hi-fi and DJ products.

Perfect preparation for the clubs

Music can easily be prepared at home using the free Engine Prime software, for which regular updates are available. Cue points and loops can be added, and tracks can be grouped into playlists and synchronised on USB sticks or SD cards. Traktor and Serato playlists can be imported, and Pioneer Rekordbox playlists can even be read directly. The Prime 2 also directly allows tracks to be analysed and playlists to be created without the aid of a computer, and these can then be exported to a USB stick and used on any Denon Engine Prime setup. All of this makes the DJ Prime 2 the perfect compact preparation console for DJs using Denon’s larger setups for club performances.

In the spotlight: Streaming for DJs

Listening to music via streaming services on your mobile phone is an everyday occurrence – but what about mixing it? That is no problem either, since the DJ Prime 2 lets you mix music from popular streaming services like Beatport, Soundcloud, and Tidal. DJs who wish to do this need a paying streaming account, but since streaming services offer a free trial period, DJs can take the time to find out which service offers the most suitable range of music. Once a track has been downloaded and analysed, it can be mixed with the same precision as music from a USB stick, and the analysis data are saved to the connected storage medium and thus immediately available for the next performance. With the DJ Prime 2 and a streaming subscription, DJs have direct access to millions of songs and can be sure that they are always up to date.
