I have been playing all types of whistles for a long time but never a low D whistle, so i done some research and came across the Chieftain custom low d, so i took a chance and ordered one,
Pros- beautiful looking, nice weight, and a superb deep sound,
the holes are closer together so making it easy to handle
Cons- price was more than i ever paid for a whistle but worth every penny,

Amazing sound, build quality could be better at this price
Obscure Machines 12.12.2024
I bought this whistle because of the sound. It has a nice raspy and deep airy quality. The build quality could be better. The fipple is 1/4mm turned off center, and there’s a small empty pocket on both “corners” where the metals meet which could potentially lead to some build up over time. The airway isn’t perfectly centered on the mouthpiece as it is also just barely off by a hair. There were 2 small machining “dents” on the mouthpiece and 1 on the end. I used 600 grit sandpaper and aluminum polish to take care of these. I also broke the sharp edges on the mouthpiece and the end as well. As mentioned in another review the hole in the top of the flute can collect moisture easily. This could be a 5-star instrument if the maker took just a little bit more time building and also doing some more finish work. Lastly, since it’s aluminum it scratches easily, I will be polishing frequently to maintain it. Overall, sound trumps everything and its beauty makes me overlook the flaws, which everything except the fipple alignment can be remedied. I love this instrument.

A great low whistle for a good price!

I got this to play jigs n reels in order to practice more quietly than my irish flute.
It serves that purpose very well, but also has enough volume for a smaller session, and the tone is of very good quality, not too breathy and not too bright.
Response is excellent and air requirements are good for the tone that it gives you.

Gutes Instrument - mit Schwächen
WhisT 06.09.2020
