Third-generation KeyLab

Front view of the Arturia KeyLab Essential 61 MK3 White

The KeyLab Essential 61 MK3 is the third-generation model of Arturia’s innovative and comprehensive MIDI controller. In addition to 61 velocity-sensitive keys, which allow melodies and rhythms to be imported into any DAW, the controller also features a clickable encoder, nine rotary encoders and faders, and a pitch bend and modulation wheel. Direct control of the connected DAW is provided courtesy of the transport section and via the DAW Command Center. Unlike its predecessor models, the third-generation keyboard controller now supports custom scripts to provide flexible control of various DAWs. In addition, the user interface has been completely overhauled, enabling an even faster and more simplified workflow courtesy of the new LCD screen with real-time visual feedback. And thanks to the software package included with the controller, production can start immediately.

Now with assignable functions

The clickable encoder allows presets to be selected for each DAW via the 2.5" LCD screen. Above the two octavation buttons is the Chord button, which enables the activation of Chord mode, allowing the user to play a chord at the press of a single key. The eight pads provide access to corresponding maps in the KeyLab Essential software. The first two pads will allow the user to switch between controlling the DAW and the Analog Lab software, while the remaining six pads are assignable to maps, which can be created using the MIDI Control Center software. Undo and redo functions, a metronome, and a save facility for generated projects are all directly accessible via the DAW Command Center section. In addition to the MIDI output and USB-C connection, which can be used to supply power and transmit MIDI data to the computer, the back of the controller is also fitted with a connection for an optionally available sustain pedal.

Flexible control of production

The white Arturia KeyLab Essential 61 MK3 is ideal for music producers looking for a fast, intuitive, and effective workflow. In addition to an extensive import facility for melodies and rhythms, the Arturia KeyLab Essential 61 MK3 White also gives the user control of all DAW functions that are essential for music production, predominantly via the transport and DAW Command Center sections. Users will also be able to undo steps, store projects, and fast-forward, rewind, and loop playback from the controller, which can additionally be run using the Mackie and HUI Control protocols. The third-generation model also features a new function, which will give users control of DAWs such as Ableton Live, Logic Pro X, and FL Studio via custom scripts. The controller is powered via the USB-C connection.

About Arturia

Arturia's success story began with software emulations of well-known analogue synthesizers such as the Moog Minimoog, Sequential Prophet-5, and Oberheim SEM. The popular software instruments included in the V Collection are still flagship products of the French developer today. Over time, Arturia has gradually expanded its range and now also offers a host of hardware devices, ranging from synthesizers and keyboard controllers to sequencers. Since then, the former software developer has thus also become a household name in the world of analogue synthesizers and other equipment.

Software package included

The software package supplied with the third-generation KeyLab Essential 61 MK3 has been expanded and is now even more extensive than that of the previous generations. Music production can start immediately using the Ableton Live Lite DAW, which offers numerous effects and virtual instruments. The two sample-based virtual pianos – UVI Model D and The Gentleman from Native Instruments – enable customised melody configuration courtesy of their numerous parameters. The Analog Lab V software also comes with more than 2,000 presets from Arturia’s V Collection for cross-genre production. And, as the icing on the cake, the package comes with a two-month subscription to Loopcloud, which provides access to millions of licence-free loops. The further addition of a trial subscription to Melodics will also prove ideal for beginners, enabling them to learn how to play a keyboard in multiple lessons.
