Great sound, super neck, too heavy, sharp frets
Thobias 27.01.2025
The Yamaha Revstar RSP02T Crisp Gold looks fantastic. Beautiful colour (subjective of course), perfectly finished, good hardware and the Yamaha P90s pickups sound phenomenally good. Better than my Custom Shop Gibson 1956 Les Paul Goldtop Reissue VOS. I tested it on a Star Sirius Reverb 30 Mark Sampson tube amp (Class A, PTP) and a 1973 Marshall Super Lead. Straight into the amps, no pedals, no reverb, all EQ flat. I have quite a few guitars, Fenders, Duesenbergs, Maybachs, Gretsch, Gibsons, Eastmans,... both vintage and new. All great guitars, but this Yamaha immediately topped the list. It could easily become my number one guitar. The neck plays super easy and pleasant. I am a fan of the 24 3/4 neck scale. The radius combination works really well for me. But the guitar was very badly tuned. The action was not good, rattling strings, no accurate tuning on the 12th fret and harmonics or with open strings. Also, it kept detuning. Even after replacing the standard strings with new ones. The frets were so sharp, that after a while it became unpleasant and I had to put the guitar aside. The weight was most disappointing for me. At 3.82kg - this guitar even has a chambered body, - this is the second heaviest I still own. For me, that's too much for a long concert. I don't change guitars during a gig. Unless with string breakage of course. It's a lovely guitar, really a fantastic instrument, but I returned it for that reason. Such a shame. Really. What a wonderful instrument… I hope to find a lightweight Revstar RSP02T Crisp Gold one day. It would be heaven.
