Amongst the very best. Comparison with Rath 1 1/4
Nick Bass Trombone 30.12.2016
For years I've played on a Rath 1 1/4 after having tried everything available from specialist shops in Germany.
Size wise, this is quite similar - I find the attack a little clearer and sharper with this Yamaha. Through all registers you can find a certain solidity and centred sound, but it doesn't lose the overtones as with buckets like the Schilke 60 or Doug Yeo Yamaha.
I tested this at a Big Band gig with a Bass Bone feature in the pedal register, and it was here that it slightly outdid the Rath. Perhaps not the ideal Symphonic mpc, some extra gold might help there to darken it slightly - the Wick Heritage series like a 0AL may be better there.
