Probably the easiest one to use
Marko159 12.09.2015
I got this in order to use it with a 5-string electric cello so I did use a knife to carve one end open. This didn't seem to affect the sound, so the review is probably still relevant.
It's a decent basic rubber mute. It doesn't dampen the sound as much as wood or metal does but it changes the sound in similar fashion (although each material does sound slightly different). So if you are considering getting a mute in order to be able to practice at night, this might not be the best one for you. On the other hand if you only want to achieve the muted sound, it's well worth considering. It is easier to install and take off than wood or metal ones and doesn't make dents in the bridge.

Snug but at a price

This is a serious piece of dampening kit - as in it really muffles the sound to allow you to practice late at night! Seems to be a nice snug fit over my bridge and holds it shape well. Looks like a cheap piece of kit but invaluable!

Great practice mute
Dan1991 02.12.2018
This mute fits snugly on the bridge of my cello, and is rubber coated so as to prevent any damage should it fall off. It doesn't leave black marks like the last one I tried, and I would guess it dampens the sound by about 30%. A cello will always remain a 'louder' instrument, but this little invention is probably going to save a lot of neighbours from premature insanity.
I'm really glad I bought it!

Much better sound than ebony mute.

Sound is way better than the ebony mute we had (which sounded like under water). Recommended.

ultra mute

I guess the main use for this is for making the instrument quieter for late night practicing but I have using it because the sound is quite interesting. Like a normal mute but just much more muted sound.
