An eye opener
janusM 13.08.2023
This quad ballun really does the job. I used it with 25m of cat6 cable. But when testing (still coiled) I picked up some hum. So I modified it by soldering a ground wire on the casing of the internal RJ45 female connector in on of the 2 boxes. Perfect sound now !
I will also solder myself some balanced cinch-XLR cables (pin 1 unconnected), so that I can send microphone signals through this wiring.

Not Compatible with the the sssnakeCat Snake 3M series
SEGFAULT 25.11.2024
If you are in the position I was in, wondering how to connect a tape deck "all the way over there" to a mixer "over here" then you may have wondered if you can connect this to a the sssnakeCat Snake 3MC
the sssnake Cat Snake 3MC to get RCA to XLR via a balanced CAT cable.
If you are like me you may have figured out friom the manuals that to have a chance of working you need to open the unit and swap around two connections so the pinouts match.
I am here to tell you that doesn't work. The impedance mismatch between the transformer and the input of your XLR interface is too high for a passive system to overcome. The resulting audio is thin and tinny.
If you buy a second one and use it as intended it works great (although a little pricy for what it is)
