I bought this microphone to mic up toms. The drummer in my band recently added a small rack tom to his kit so I needed the extra mic. I normally use Samson Q-Tom on toms however these are not available individually so I needed something that performed similar to the Q-tom so as I could match the sound I was getting from the other toms using the Samson Q-tom mics. Well what can I say about this mic? It is fantastic!! It sounds superb and is of a professional quality in my opinion. For the price this is literally amazing!! You only need to look at the reviews and the ratings of this mic on the Thomann website to realise so many people could not be wrong in choosing this mic. Well, the stats spoke for themselves and I am now another one of those stats.
The build quality of this mic is fantastic. It has good construction. I'm not sure if it is metal but it is certainly made out of a dense and strong material with a very strong wire mic grill. It is not cheap plastic rubbish. It is as strong as anything you will find from Sure mics if I had to make a comparison. It is much sturdier and tougher built than the Samson Q-tom (which still is a good mic). The t.bone CD 56 beta is just a lot more robust and professional feeling and looking.
Sound wise it performs similar to the Samson Q-tom, which if I remember correctly has the exact same frequency response as the Sure SM-57. As you may or may not know that indicates that it is actually a great multipurpose mic, great for all kinds of micing situations. However areas where this mic would shine like the SM-57 would be micing mid-range heavy instruments. For me that was a tom, and predominantly this is what I will use this mic for. However this mic sounds great on a snare drum and on guitar cabs. I think it excels in these situations.
The look of this mic is great, it's a really nice mic. It's compact enough for small fitting situations although once a mic cable is plugged into the back it can poke out a long ways so perhaps a right angled mic jack would be best if spatial requirements are limited in what ever application you are using this mic in.
I am very happy with this mic. The price is really crazy for what you get. This mic could easily be used alongside more expensive mics. This is my first t-bone product and I have to say it will not be my last. I would buy more of these mics in future and I probably will buy this model again.
Comes with a useful clip also which is a nice little bonus!! Great job t.bone! Great job Thomann!

Really good all round mic. I've used it on drums and guitar amp and it's worked really well. Basically if I'm not sure what mic to use, I'll try this one 1st!

Bought as an extra tom mic
ascension_drummer 22.07.2018
I already have a set of cheap drum mics (Superlux) and the tom mics look exactly like this one. I needed another tom mic, so I bought this. I use this in my rehearsal space to record practice and drum cover videos.
I like the fact that the threaded hardware for mounting this to a clip-on mount or mic stand is already attached to the body. Of course, the 'sound' depends on the drum, the tuning, the room, processing, ... but based on my experience so far this microphone satisfies my requirements. I would be interested to compare this to a Sennheiser e604 for example.

Unbelievably good value
Wishiwastaylorhawkins 25.10.2022
Bought this during lockdown, so now about 2 years old. In my shed its survived 2x cold winters and 2x warmish summers (in England, so you might not agree with the definition of warm and cold :)). Been hit with drum sticks and barely a scratch on it. I now use t as a vocal mic because its easy to put on a boom being by drum throne. Great sound for the price. Theres no way I'm buying anything else.

Good mic for a low price
Renat R. 07.08.2018
I use it for my electric guitar amplifier. In my opinion, the sound is as good as Shure beta 57. Can't see why would pay 100+ euros for different brandname.
This microphone doesn't feel cheap at all, looks like more expensive.
Can't get anything better with that price.

Multi purpose Mic
Almeida 02.03.2015
This is a great and cheap mic.
It’s dynamic (doesn’t need phantom power) and directional (super-cardioid) which means, it captures sound produced in front of it.
It has a good sensibility and linear response and can withstand high Sound Pressure Levels, so, can be used to everything in the mid frequency range (voice, guitar amp, trumpet, sax) but I tested it for the bass drum and bass amp and it worked very well.
The coil is mounted in a rubber holder to isolate it from unwanted noises and it has an impedance transformer. Like other mics for the same purpose, this has no on/off switch.
It is very well made, robust and its small size and light weight makes it the ideal mic to mount in difficult and small places.
It comes in a simple card board box, and brings no cable.

Fantastic Snare Mic
Mick Heenan BSc (Hons) Aud Eng. 13.05.2020
This little drum mic performs great in either live or studio situations. I have used it for toms and both snare top and bottom, it works as well as its more expensive competitors. Easily my the first choice for anyone starting out into the world of live gigs or sound production. Low noise, robust build, great frequency response and bang for your buck.

a great little snare mic
Howard T. 15.05.2013
I use this mic almost exclusively for snare drums. i worked a large festival as second engineer recently and used this as the snare drum mic for 3 national touring bands - the snare sound was more than acceptable and no one noticed this wasn't a big brand name mic. i also use it with the DC1000 set as the snare mic and they work great together. It's also been used for general close mic'ing of percussion and performs great in that role too. i have no hesitation in recommending this mic above other instrument mics 3 times the price.
