Great Delay and Looper!
Bojack8108 13.10.2019
The features on this pedal are great. The delay engines switch over very easy and the 6 banks with the presets are actually nice. I tried out the TonePrint stuff and it actually works.

The looper is quite useful, but it would have been really cool if you could use the delay engines and switch between them whilst having the looper active and recording.

The pedal really shines when used in stereo setups, which I mostly aim for. It does fab with the ambient stuff and does this well with 2 Amps. I really like the subs you can dial in and it makes dialing in the treasured dotted eighths really easy.

I like the chunkiness of it and looks really nice with the mix of other pedals I have. The dials are easy to use and the input/outputs at the back are very easy to use and setup.

Only thing annoying is that the power adapter that came with it, does not support our 3 point plugs. It is a standard 2 prong plug that came with the pedal.

So in all, I am pleased with this purchase.

Amazing Tones
Mustafa Ozbay 28.03.2022
No need to explain its features, however the tone opportunities that toneprint app provides and the mash variables on them are just beyond expectations. It is probably the best pedal (in terms of tone variety) I have ever used. It has huge potential on stage as well as for home studio records.

P
Quality meets simplicity and convenience
PapaDude 22.04.2023
The depth TC Electronic has gone to create the whole TonePrint concept and then apply it to each one of their pedals still seems incredible to me, and has worked great for me personally.

Regarding the Flashback 2 X4 specifically, I find all the basic algorithms usable, and when it comes to the range of delay sounds that can be achieved through TonePrints, the possibilities are literally endless. You don't really need to dig that deep and get lost in seas you cannot swim though, since that there are so many great TonePrints already created by a lot of artists and players, that you probably won't even have to open the TonePrint editor not even once. If you want to finetune a few of those and bring it closer to your needs though, or if you are experienced at programming sound effects and you want to create a totally personal pedal from the get-go, the TP editor will open an interesting new world for you. For the rest of us lazy guitarists out there, what's already available is more than enough, since that the five self-explanatory controls of the front panel make it the simplest mega-delay to operate.

As for the differences between the 1st and 2nd version of the Flashback X4, the newer version has 6 storable presets instead of 3, 6 TonePrint slots instead of 4, a dedicated Subdivisions control, the Bypass and Kill-Dry switches easily accessible on the front side of the pedal (and not inside), and of course the MASH function, which is basically a way to apply expression functionality to each one of the 6 presets (another clever and useful innovation). All of them very welcome features.

The whole Flashback X4 experience is like having thousands of delay pedals at your disposal and use only the few that you need, and in the simplest way possible. So, to sum it up, this unit checks all the boxes in what makes a great and forward thinking delay unit, and is by far the most important pedal of my whole board.

P.S.: My favorite TonePrints are the Andy Martin Echoplex 2 and the Pat Cuchanan Crazy Tape Delay. Give them a try, you won't be disappointed. ;)

tc electronic Flashback 2 X4 Delay
SashGinger 18.11.2020
I used the flashback x4 of the first version for a long time, I used it with a guitar, and I really liked it, but the Flashback2 x4 definitely has changes for the better, and most of them are functional.
Firstly, it is the use of "mash" technology, secondly, the advanced capabilities of midi sync with other pedal and DAW, and most importantly, the advanced capabilities in the settings - + 6 toneprint slots + 2*3 delay presets, 11 subdivide, external switches on/off killdry, + new amazing! "CRYSTAL" delay type.
High-quality sound, I definitely recommend to those who use the delay as an important element of their guitar sound and those who just love delay sound :)

R
Features, practicality and ever expandable
RftTdrummer 21.03.2022
I have used this product for about a month and I can safely say that I am blown away, just like my bandmates are.

When I first brought it to rehearsal, after having programmed it at home, the band were blown away and it enriched our sound beyond believe. Having so many different delays available on the dial makes it ever more accessible.

The mash footswitches are brilliant, and have failed me only once. This was easily fixed with a restart.

And then there is Toneprint. Wow. I have managed to already program custom sounds and options in the desktop app and it makes that the pedal is forever expandable.

I highly recommend this purchase regardless of its size. The advantage of having 6(!) presets available justifies this in an instance. Well done, TC!

Fantastic, but not quite 'it' for me
97Tyson 19.05.2020
There are some truly inspiring sounds in this pedal; it meets all the basic needs most guitarists are after easily, and even before the possibilities of toneprint are explored, there are some phenomenally strange sounds that inspire me to create. I'm glad to see that the analog delays now self-oscillate, but also that there are delay sounds that don't do that; one of my favourite things about the first Flashback was being able to use it to create a low-level, endless soundscape beneath my playing. There are a number of great quality of life improvements here: six soundbanks, more toneprint slots, and the inclusion of the absolutely incredible MASH function are wonderful. This pedal can do almost everything I want it to do (there are some unique sounds from other pedals that I can't recreate here, but the Flashback has its own array of unique sounds, so that's not something I hold against it).
My only real issue is that I can only do one of those things at a time; unlike the original Flashback x4, or the Triple King, the Flashback 2x4 seems to only be able to use one delay function at a time. Which is a shame, as I would love to be able to combine a more basic delay sound with one of the weirder, more ambient sounds. Still, my needs in that department are a little eccentric; I have a feeling that for the vast majority of people, this pedal will be everything they need, along with a whole lot of other things they hadn't even considered!

Very good, the looper is just a bit shorter than my needs
masik 31.03.2021
This does the job for any delay stuff. Very complex, yet easy to use.
Amazing for its price.
If the looper was 5-10 seconds longer, it would have 6 stars instead of 4.

S
Delay with Mash
Shrimpy 30.12.2023
This unit is a beautiful beast. It's built like a brick and feels very high quality, I love the build quality, the large knobs and switches feel extremely robust & meaty. Although there are many features to get your head around it is really simple to get going & you can delve deeper into the capabilities of this delay unit in your own time. There's literally loads of settings & custom options to experiment with & also an easy to use looper function. The MASH foot-switches and their sonic possibilities are crazy! I'm a big fan of tc electronic and this unit is the real deal. Make some room on your pedalboard!

So many tones
JorisRas 24.04.2020
This pedal really changed my life. I used to write on my setlist when I needed to change my delay settings but now I can just push a button with a preset. I got to say that the delay sounds take a few seconds to change correctly, so you can't really use two different sounds in one song. Still an amazing pedal!
