Showtec Dominator 3-in-1

The Showtec Dominator has been a great addition to one of our mobile DJ Rigs. It's DMX-able, all 3 elements of the light work well independently and together and the light output is great.

The positives on this light are numerous but in essence it does exactly what you'd want it to when purchasing a '3-in-1' unit; it acts as a great utility light rather than a main feature. What I mean by this is that between the throws of colour, strobes and lasers this unit is able to create a great palette from which your 'main effects' can build. The effects on this unit aren't as flashy as you'll get on some scanners, moving heads or more expensive lasers but when used in conjunction DMX'd they work together brilliantly. The fact that this unit won't be a main effect on a rig isn't a criticism - for it's tiny price it easily covers the jobs of 2 or 3 of my other units! And we only put one on one of our mobile rigs.

The only area for improvement would be a greater range of DMX channels. The DMX features work great but given the range of things that this light can do, it seems a shame to limit the DMX control to such a low number of channels. What it has is completely functional but an additional range of controllable parameters would be awesome on the next similar product!

In short - I'll probably be buying more of these in the future. Great unit, nice build quality and saves me money on what I'd usually buy for the same purpose.

Der Dominator 3-in-1 bietet in einer sehr kompakten Klasse drei Effekte in einem Gerät.

- Strobo
- Flower
- Laser

Das Gerät wurde als Zweitgerät zum Flower FE-900 angeschafft, welches nur Strobo und Flower beinhaltet.

Strobo:
Schön hell! Leider kann man die Strobo Geschwindigkeit nicht so genau einstellen wie man es gerne hätte.
Dafür gibt es einige Modi die man wählen kann wo die Strobe LEDs einzelnd genutzt werden. Das ist ganz nett anzusehen wenn man auf das Gerät achtet. Der Effekt auf der Tanzfläche ist dahingehend eher suboptimal, da immer mindestens eine LED an ist, was dafür sorgt, dass es auf der Tanzfläche nicht mehr strobt sondern immer irgendwie hell ist. Also mal als Gimmick einsetzbar, als Strobo sind die Modi eher suboptimal.

Flower:
Die Strahlen sind präzise, die Anzahl der Farben ist sehr gut. Gerade mit Amber kann man echt schön anzusehende Effekte erschaffen.
Die Farben an sich sind sehr klar und schön anzusehen und insgesamt alle gleich hell.
Die Rotationsgeschwindigkeit des Derby ist einstellbar, hier wäre eine feine Abstufung auch schöner gewesen. Bei langsamen Bewegungen ruckeln die Bewegungen durch den Schrittmotor ein wenig, aber aber im Live Betrieb wenig auffällt.
Die Strahlen sind relativ dick und nicht so fein wie beim FE-900

Laser:
Was soll man von einem Laser in dieser Preisklasse sagen? Schwach, dunkel, kaum wahrnehmbar auf einer normalen Distanz. Wenn es richtig dunkel ist kann man die Strahlen sehen, aber das ist leider selten im Normalen der Fall.
Den Laser kann man also getrost aus lassen, der bringt es leider nicht wirklich.

Fazit:
Abgesehen vom Laser ist das Gerät für die Preisklasse durchaus brauchbar.
Müsste ich mich entscheiden zwischen dem FE-900 und dem Dominator würde ich wieder zum FE-900 greifen, dieser wird nur leider nicht mehr hergestellt. Der FE-900 hat feiner Strahlengänge, ein sauberer einstellbares Strobo, welches nur leider nicht so hell wie das vom Dominator ist.
