Typical Rycote Quality
DrCheese 11.02.2023
This may seem a little expensive but compared to a similar Rode windjammer I have, a step up in quality is clear. In order for these to work their best, the hairs needs to stand out and be slightly scruffy. The hairs act as shock absorbers. The Rode's hairs have a tendency to lie flat and orderly, but the Rycote more easily resembles 'surfer hair'.
It includes a little hairbrush which is intended to be used to separate the hairs if they become clumped, particularly needed if it has got wet.
I would recommend turning it inside out when not in use. I have a 15-year old windjammer with which I didn't do this. Now it seems slightly worse off, as if it's had a haircut.
