7. The ultimative mouthpiece

As we remarked at the very beginning of this guide, there is no such thing as the "ultimate" mouthpiece. Every player has his own opinion and preconditions. No musician is spared finding his own mouthpiece(s). But your teacher can probably give you some helpful advice!

He may even have a mouthpiece for you to try out. This can help you find out the right general direction for you, at least. A complete beginner will definitely make no mistake by buying so-called learner mouthpieces. And a properly staffed music shop will help you choose the one that's right for you. Many mouthpiece manufacturers are helpful enough to indicate the most commonly used models in their catalogues.

This is at least one way to narrow the search.

Unfortunately, you'd be wrong to think that one single mouthpiece will last your whole life.

It is not uncommon that your ideal moutpiece changes as your playing improves. Beginners, of course, use different moutpieces from professionals. In the beginning the main thing is to actually produce a sound. Later on, other aspects of the sound become more important. But why not? It's not as though you signed a contract with your mouthpiece.
