MXR Micro Amp M133

313

Pedal Preamp

Guitarists never tire of looking for more and more great pedals to tweak their distortion sound, but what if the amp already sounds great but could do with a bit more gain? Overdrives and treble boosters would alter the frequency response - not desirable in this case. This is exactly where the MXR Micro has been just the thing for many years - without distorting the sound, the amp gets exactly the kick it was missing; ideal for getting a powerful lead sound out of old Marshalls, Fenders and Voxes without messing up their beloved characteristic sound.

MORE gain
georgebranekov 14.04.2020
Well, doesn't get more simple than one knob. Can add quite a lot of gain to the signal, actually. I use it either as a lead boost or to compensate for weaker signal. My favourite use is after fuzz/drive, at about 11 o'clock, with the guitar volume knob rolled half way down. Signal is nice and strong, and for a lead tone just roll the guitar knob up, no monkey business. This not a transparent boost, though, so if you are looking for this, better try something else. Rolls out some of the highs. My personal preference - I like it. Build quality is MXR - this will take up kicking around no problem. Knob is large and with the Dunlop rubber tyre it makes it very easy to adjust with your feet while playing. Now this is a lot of text for one knob. Very cool.

Built to last!
Anonymous 21.04.2015
I'm writing this review now on 21st april 2015! I bought this pedal in July 2007! I still own it!

It has done me proud, never let me down and I highly recommend it to anyone and everyone. Such a simple piece of kit, one knob does it all and its perfect.

I used it in both my acoustic set up and my electric set up.

It runs on 9V or you can use a battery. I run it on the 9V as its requires unscrewing 4 screws to access the battery compartment.

So to summarise, having owned the pedal for 8 years, it is an excellent piece of gear for anyone wanting a boost. When you bring the knob up around 3 o'clock it adds a little gain but not too much to colour the sound, enough to boost your tone with a little added grit. I use it set at around 1 o'clock with the acoustic guitar to boost for solos and it sounds great.

This was my first purchase from Thomann and I have since come back many times. I would happily recommend both this product and the excellent service from Thomann!

GK
surprisingly handy little pedal that should feature on every pedal board
Graham K. 25.05.2013
the MXR micro amp is a handy piece of kit.

mine arrived very well packaged in a good quality black box. once unpacked i found a very high quality pedal, the case is made of thick metal, the dial is good quality as is the switch.

its designed to boost your signal, but you can use it for way more than that, on large pedal boards, it helps keep your signal strength high. you can also use it to make yourself louder at a drop of a hat, and you can also add a bit of grind when you turn the gain switch to the max

i personally use it to make myself louder on stage when going into a heavy chorus.
being able to ramp up the sound level really helps to get the fans attention. and having the power to change your volume level without the sound guy makes life so much easier.

if you were to get just one pedal, this is the one i'd recommend, its simple, its incredibly diverse in its use, and the quality is a cut above all my other pedals.

S
Just boost!
SachaS 06.02.2015
I have a lot of overdrives on my board due to playing in covers band and the need for multiple different sounds. With a new project just started which sits on the heavier side of rock I realised a need for a final clean boost.

I got my first micro amp second hand recently and was so impressed that I've just bought this new one. I was so shocked at how neutral the boost was that I immediatly realised I needed one at the start of my chain as well as at the end.

I can now use single coils and humbucker equipped guitars in the same set and just use the micro amp at the start of my chain to level up the single coils without affecting the tone in any way. And with the one at the end it doesn't matter how many overdrives are on I still get a boost in volume without any added gain. Awesome!

I've got a Mooer pure boost in the middle of my board which does give a very clean boost but it has a slightly clinical sound when on which the micro amps don't.

All in, if you want a boost in volume or a single coil level adjustment both without any tone coloration buy one of these now! Or two like I did!
