A very versatile tool

I finally treated myself to Ethno 2 and I was not disappointed. The sound database is so large, it took me a week just to try each sound. Jumping from continent to continent there are sounds on this programme the like of which I have never heard. I can't tell you the effect an African Kora has in the background of an acoustic song! It adds a dimension and flavour which really makes it stand out. The percussive instruments and loops are very powerful and can be stretched, slowed or quickened. There is a very cool 'authentic tuning' tool which plays each instrument in the scale of its geographical context, sometimes a microtone or two distant from Western tuning. If you're a fan of Dead Can Dance, you'll be able to emulate to your heart's content. Overall, this programme for me is like adding spice to a dish. An excellent VI to have in your rack: stand alone or instantiate with host software like Protools. A must for fans of World Music. The after-sales service from Thomann is, as usual, excellent again.
