Amp simulations and onboard effects

With 15 watts of power driving a 6.5" custom speaker, the compact yet feature-rich Mooer Hornet Black Combo is the ideal guitar amp for practising at home or for smaller sessions. The Hornet features nine popular amp simulations with adjustable gain, three-band EQ, and individual volume as well as delay and reverb modules that can be independently controlled via tap tempo in real time. Once they have dialled in the desired tone, users can store and recall up to nine of their own presets. In addition, the Hornet has a built-in high-sensitivity tuner that is easy to read thanks to the large display located on the top of the combo. Bluetooth playback functionality with adjustable volume levels is also included, as is a headphone output jack for silent practice. Last but not least, the Hornet's tiny size makes it portable, while its classic stylings will ensure that it will fit in nicely in any home.

Simple operation is the name of the game!

The user interface of the Mooer Hornet Black Combo is intuitive and can be learnt by anyone in just a few minutes. As mentioned above, users can easily select one of the nine impressive-sounding amplifier models on board by turning the large, illuminated "chickenhead" knob on the front of the combo, and each of these models can be can played in Live or Preset mode. The selection includes clean sounds reminiscent of the Roland Jazz Chorus and Fender Twin Reverb, together with dynamic crunch sounds and contemporary high-gain tones in the style of Mesa/Boogie's Rectifier amps and boutique amps from Bogner. A three-band EQ section in conjunction with a selection of delay and modulation effects enable extensive customisation of the desired tone, and the speed of the modulation effects can also be adjusted at the touch of a button, while the three reverb types (Room, Hall, and Church) allow for a choice of acoustic environments.

About Mooer

Mooer is based in the Chinese city of Shenzhen and has been making products for guitarists since 2010, which include compact single pedals through to multi-effects units and compact amplifiers. The company initially produced a range of mini pedals before making perhaps its most significant breakthrough in 2016 with the sophisticated Ocean Machine delay pedal, which was designed in collaboration with Devin Townsend. Mooer's product range now also includes solutions that feature amp modelling, IR-based speaker simulation, and matching equalisers, and the company's focus remains firmly on the use of digital technology.

Compact combo with versatile sounds and effects

Packing a diverse range of amp models and an array of the most common and useful effects into a compact form factor that is simple and intuitive to operate, the Mooer Hornet Black Combo is the ideal partner for use at home. The 15-watt power stage in combination with the custom 6.5" speaker provides plenty of "oomph", while the wide range of connections, including an AUX input and Bluetooth pairing for smartphones, offers an excellent degree of flexibility, while silent monitoring is also possible thanks to the aforementioned dedicated headphone output. With the ability to store and recall up to nine customised presets, there is ample space to explore various creative ideas, and the fresh appearance of this diminutive combo also ensures that it will be an eye-catcher in any setting.

Good but the "White" brother, I think better for me (or the HB-20R)
Michael Polimeneris 26.07.2021
I got it initially at Greece from Thomann, interchanging a Harley Benton HB-20R that came in bundle with my Harley Benton S-620 TR Rock Series, having first eaten the bait of top-side-located knobs on Mooer instead of the classic side-side of HB, which was preferable for me having to bend "down there" to be able to see the labels, in order to make adjustments.
Afterwards I got the same at my second point of activity/house, UAE, for uniformity reasons.
My selection was based on some presentations I had seen at YouTube from testers. They were evaluating the "White" sibling and I thought that the existence of White and Black was a matter of colouring, of personal preference and matching with the environment and instruments only.
So when I had to choose between the White or the Black at Greece initially, where both were available from Thomann, I ordered the "Black to don't be stained easily", as stupidly I thought.
The similar that followed at Dubai, identical as aforementioned for uniformity and moreover because it was the unique option at UAE.
Afterwards regretfully I discovered that the two models have DIFFERENT capabilities and modelling/other types-brands simulation. Something that nobody thought to mention. And unluckily the suitable for me was the "White" one rather... not that Black is bad, just my modelling preferences are nearer to the White. The return/change window has closed at both countries, so I have to compromise and live for a while with the "Black".
And... I feel from the few, 1-2 hours only I tested the cheaper, yet very decent Harley Benton HB-20R before to stupidly apply for return/change with the Mooer Black, that the sound of HB was nearer to my taste. I'm getting older yet still learning...

Love it, way better than expected
JustRachael 20.10.2020
For the money I wasn't expecting much. I had a little katana mini which was OK but didn't have much output and I wanted a little practice amp to sit under a coffee table and yet looked good.

First of all the looks. Whenever anyone sees it they immediately comment on it's 50's styling and how the blue dial was perfect.

But, most importantly, the sound. Some of the amps are a little too rocky for me, I play Jazz/ blues but overall for a practice amp I have zero complaints. It's really there to replace a Yamaha THR which was ok, a pain as it always suffer from a buzz caused by a short and I'm actually more of a fan of this Mooer and it's sounds. There's options for pretty much anything I want to play.

Our Bass player plugged in his Warwick and was impressed, it's a versatile piece of kit. Not enough low end for him to gig with but he was happy enough. I guess that's a good compliment.

K
Nice combo for kids bedroom
Kokus 11.02.2019
I've bought this combo for my nephew. He only starts playing guitar, but he wants to sound as a megastar! And my sister wants to live in peace and quiet. Dilemma :)
Here is where Mooer Hornet comes in. Cool, stylish, has everything that kid and his mom expects from it. Thank you Mooer, one happy family fed :)

I have tried many small combos from "classic" brands for home use, and was disappointment with their sound, features and look.. This is the best choice for hobbyists on my opinion. Modeling amp is a modelling amp. Just don't expect it to be a replacement of a real tube amp on staage, and you will be happy.
A lot of amps emulated, not just clean and overdrive. Effects enriches the sound, so for home playing you actually don't need anything more.
Controls - a bit unclear for classic amp user, but you just should get just to it, and then you will understand why it is done that way.
Bluetooth is a must for modern home combos.
