THE flatwound strings!
Andy66 19.09.2013
Sound:
Balanced tension is a funny thing if you've never met it before but each string feels alike and this enables you to play with greater consistency!

Their sound is typically 'flats' in that it has a good fundamental thump but they don't lack clarity or top end either, a good rounded sound but with none of that roundwound snap/sizzle.

Quality:
I always find the mark of a good string is that when you first unwind it it hangs perfectly straight, no disappointment here! Easy to install and nice & stable tuning from the off!

Each string feels very consistent with no lumps or bumps and tension is as even as they claim!

Conclusions:
If you're looking for flatwounds of medium to low tension then these are superb and they sound exactly right!

Old-school tone for days
Uros86 16.08.2021
For old-school flats tone, these are great strings. To me, they sound good right out of the box. Of course with time they loose high-end and become even darker and thumpier. Perfect for Motown P-bass.

I eventually replaced them however, with Dunlop Stanless Steel Flatwounds. The Dunlops sound just about the same, especially when they are broken in, but are slightly less rigid and easier on the fretting hand. The Dunlops are now on the bass, and LaBellas in the drawer, for backup. This is only personal preference though, and the difference is really minor. I still highly recommend these LaBellas.

Simply the best

Imo the best flats there is. Tried Thomastik, Fender and Rotosound, but La Bella are simply my kind of flats. Smooth, great sounding, balanced and great quality.

Classic!

Put them on a P-Bass and you'll hear the original Motown-Sound known from Jamerson and co.
Really nice low-mid punch but still a quite good definition. Personally, I'd recommend to play close to the Bridge, because otherwise your sound will get a bit muddy and lack high-mids (rather likea doublebass).
Also the surface is very smooth, which makes it easy for your fingers, at least if you're used to playing flats.

Silky smooth
BrunoTB 02.08.2023
I ordered this set for my Sire D5 50s-style single coil Precision bass, making it sound punchy yet warm and smooth with that iconic P-bass growl.
The feel under the fingers is smooth as a baby's bottom.
Fantastic set of strings!
I've tried several brands before, but LaBellas are the absolute best flatwounds in my opinion.

They are superb. I put them on my Jazz Bass and that's pure joy for the ears.
The finishing is very smooth and pleasant to touch and play.
The sound is just as great: you get the classic flatwound "thump" and a good amount of high-mids too, and they get better and better the more you play them (the thump of the E string is much stronger than the other 3 strings, keep that in mind).
One thing that I noted though is that they are a little bit low tension if compared to the stock strings my bass came with (Roundwound d'Addario strings). I never saw a bass coming with flatwounds by default so I suppose that's a thing everybody should know before switching from roundwounds. I had to adjust my truss rod because of that, otherwise they tend to have a high action, but that's not a big deal.
I definitely recommend them to anybody who loves the "thump sound", they are the best.

J
Best strings
Jellestokhof 08.05.2019
Using these on my custom P bass. After researching many different brands these came out a clear winner. Talked about it with Sean Hurley, amongst others, and he recommended, these. Slightly lighter gauge than the 105's but it makes all the difference. If you are looking for that deep, comfortable sound that sits very well in any mix, these are the string to go to.

Takes a while to break them in but once you played that first 75/100 gigs, they're golden. Patience is key with these!

J
Some of my favourite strings
James7680 28.11.2014
I have an old set of these on a Precision and they sound great. If you're after that old school thump then these are worth it. I've tried other flats including Chromes, Rotosounds and TI Flats and these, along with the TI Flats (prefer on my jazz bass) are my favourite. They have a great tension (not as tight as the chromes, not as loose as the TI) and are super smooth. Sound wise, they provide a lovely warm but round bass (at least through my Demeter head and Berg cabs) and I can dial in some lovely, smooth mids too. With the treble up there is a nice presence without being harsh (but nothing quite as trebly as round wounds). These things are staying on my Precision for a long time and this set I've just bought will be going on a G&L SB-2. Bliss :)
