Great Sound great price
Joel6381 18.07.2019
After first re-stringing, these strings sound great. As I am quite a vicious mandolin player, I frequently snap strings. I buy these strings because regardless of whatever brand of string, i re-string before every gig to have a better chance of zero snaps during the set. As i need a new set each time, I don't want to be paying £7 per set for the other brands every time I have a gig. These strings have a great sound, can go a while without snapping.

Cons: The brightness is the first thing to go and is usually gone after a single gig / sweaty practice. Fast fret can help their life.

Been using these strings for 5 years and i've just ordered another 10 sets as they do what they say on the packet and are very reasonably priced. Recommend!

I
Great value mandolin strings
Iconico 12.09.2023
I recently picked up my old f-Style mandolin after a looooooong break, and while the old strings were ok, I thought it was time to give Mandy a makeover...

Going by other positive reviews I basically thought "hell, for under 3€ what have I got to lose?" Nothing, as it turns out.

I initially forgot to add these to my order. So when I called Thomann, rather than farting about with refunds and reorders, they just added them to my delivery free of charge (I should've hung out for a Gibson SG). Now THAT's customer service.

Anyway, back to the strings. First impressions are good: no-nonsense packaging but with individual air-tight packets for each pair of strings. The bronze looks more pure bronze than phosphor-bronze but who cares. They're nice and smooth, go on easily, come up to pitch quickly and stay there.

If I had to be picky, I'd say the low strings sound a little less bassy and less full than some I've played. 0.34 is on the lighter end of things, so maybe .36 or .38 would add a little more bottom end.

To sum up, they're maybe not professional quality strings, but don't let that put you off. As someone else pointed out here, if you're playing regular gigs and breaking strings for a hobby (I'm talking Irish traditional or electric folk here), then these are a perfect backup for your case. It certainly beats breaking into a set 4 times the price just to get a spare. You could just about gig them I reckon, but it's still a little early to comment on their lifespan.

All in all, a bargain bit of kit!

Insane Value!

If you're like me, and you go through mandolin strings on what seems to be a weekly basis, then get a few of these - especially if you're trying to just learn things, or are playing gigs and don't want to shell out for a more expensive set. They're not pristine, but they really do the job. Highly recommended for the price.

Those are the cheapest strings you can find
José Meira 26.07.2020
If you're not a professional mandolin player and you play lets say once every week and don't need to record, go for it. They don't sound the best, but they are ok and for the price, just throw tow or three more in the basket...
