LK
That great Gretsch sound and an average case with some issues
Leonardo K 04.05.2020
Bought this case alongside my Gretsch G2622 (without T, so no Bigsby tremolo on my model). The overall quality of the case is good for the money, but I dislike two things. Firstly, the case is being advertised for both, Bigsby and non-Bigsby models. It's a minor issue, because I have a feeling that my guitar tends to move around the case up and down, since there is no Bigsby that would fill in the empty area between the top of the case and the guitar itself. Secondly, the case just seems too deep, or generally too poorly designed for this particular model, meaning, the back part of the guitar (behind the neck pickup) is constantly "in the air" when the guitar's in the case. That means that the whole weight of the guitar is leaning against the case in just to spots- lower part of the body and the part around the neck, so I had to put a piece of cloth inside the case in order to create a "ramp" that would've spread the weight of the guitar throughout the case.

Btw, great service from Thomann. Would have recommended them anytime.

It's okay if you don't need a battering ram
Lord Porkchop 24.10.2024
I got this case for a 2021 G2622 without a Bigsby, mostly for keeping it dust free, at which purpose it performs admirably. With a shoulder strap attached the guitar sits in the case snugly without rattling around. However, without the strap wedging it in, there's a little play both from side to side, as well as in the neck to strap button direction. The contours of the case do seem to be designed for some other guitar with slightly different dimensions with a wider and longer body and taller horns. The depth of the case is okay though, and I can't detect any bouncing inside when moving it around. There are metal feet on the back, at the bottom and on the side opposite of the handle, which protect the plastic fake leather from wear as well as allow the case to stay standing in balance, and which do seem to work quite well.

This is the only contoured case I own, so I can't compare it to similar cases, but compared to the rectangular ones I do own, this one isn't nearly as robust. There's a bit of flex on the top cover, and the latches are not a tight as I'd like. The metal parts also feel cheap, but at this price point I guess that it's unavoidable.

That said, the case does not seem unusably flimsy, but still I wouldn't subject it to too much abuse. Walking around with it around town or throwing it in the back of a car would probably work. Padding the stored guitar with its strap, and with a shirt or something behind the back, I'd maybe allow it to be placed in the storage compartment of a bus. Due to the weak latches it might need to be tied up with a belt if you would like to go running or hiking with it, and flying or leaving it in a room with a young child is right out.

It suits my needs though, which admittedly aren't very hectic.

A great case for Gretsch guitar, perfect fit, well made. A bit expensive, therefore 4 stars.

JA
Serves the purpose - but not amazing
Joao A. 02.08.2019
I bought this case for my gretsch and what I was expecting was a close tight case to my guitar, in order for it not to shake a lot while travelling. Though has a lovely finishing and serves pretty well the purpose, I found that for the price and for a gretsch case, it could keep and get kept my guitar tight to it. It seems the lockers won't last long though.
Really pretty to the eye - I just think it could be better thought when comes to save it - other than that, great case!
