Fender Mustang GTX-sounds to go

Fender's Mustang Micro Headphone Amp packs 12 amplifier models from Fender's popular Mustang GTX series together with 13 effects into one compact housing, but this is way more than just a basic heaphone amp for practising and warming up: It can also be used as an audio interface. The diminutive amplifier features a 6.3mm jack connector that can pivot by up to 270° and can thus be connected to virtually any type of guitar, while its onboard lithium ion battery allows up to four hours of operation. What is more, the Mustang Micro's Bluetooth 5.0 connectivity allows audio files and backing tracks to be streamed seamlessly from a smartphone, which makes this amp a pleasure to practise and jam with at home and even more so when on the go.

Practise and jam along

The 12 amp models that the Fender Mustang Micro has on offer can be selected via the AMP +/- button on the side and include both the clean sounds of classic Fender amplifiers and the overdriven sounds of other legendary amps. A dedicated LED adjacent to the switch indicates which amp model is currently selected. The EFFECTS switch allows the player to choose from a number of effect presets, including chorus/reverb, tremolo/reverb, and various delay and reverb combinations. These presets can then be adjusted to taste using the MODIFY switch. The fourth switch activates the EQ, which offers a selection of five settings. The Mustang Micro's USB-C socket performs three separate tasks: It provides a connection to the player's computer for recording music and for updating the device's firmware when required, and is also used to recharge the battery. And as mentioned above, the Mustang Micro's Bluetooth 5.0 connectivity makes streaming songs child's play.

A headphone amp for the discerning user

The Fender Mustang Micro is the perfect companion for players who want to enjoy a great range of sounds when practising and jamming on the go. The twelve available amp simulations cover virtually every imaginable style of music, and the impressive selection of effects allow some inspiring soundscapes to be created. And solo sessions are not the only option, as the amp's Bluetooth 5.0 connectivity also allows backing tracks and songs to be streamed wirelessly. What is more, the Mustang Micro's integrated lithium ion battery means up to four hours of playing enjoyment before a recharge is needed. Installation should be a breeze as well thanks to the input jack connector with its 270° swivel feature, which allows the compact amp to be plugged into virtually any guitar - whether it's a single-cut, a double-cut, or even a semi-acoustic.

About Fender

Fender is without doubt one of the most legendary guitar and amplifier manufacturers of all time. The company was founded in 1946 by its namesake Leo Fender († 1991), whose innovative ideas brought a breath of fresh air into the musical world. His Telecaster, Stratocaster, Precision Bass, and Jazz Bass are not only classics – they also continue to shape the styles of musicians in countless genres to this day. Timeless Fender amplifier models such as the Bassman, Twin, Deluxe, and Princeton also enjoy a stellar reputation. Besides maintaining its classic product portfolio, however, the company is also constantly developing new products that make Fender a driving force in today’s music industry.

Cool sounds straight to your ears - wherever you are

The Fender Mustang Micro Headphone Amp will deliver the goods in any situation - whether it's practising on the couch at home, jamming to backing tracks via Bluetooth, or recording to a computer - thanks to its extensive range of amplifier models and great-sounding effects together with its outstanding ease of use. And it is by no means restricted to indoor spaces, as the onboard lithium ion battery means that up to four hours of playing time outdoors or on the go are also possible. All of this makes the Mustang Micro the ideal companion for spontaneous jam sessions and for getting in some practice in your hotel room - and always in complete comfort.

Money's Worth

Not the cheapest but very likely the smartest choice if you are looking for a versatile, easy to handle, pocket-sized portable amp to serve your practicing needs.

This quality made device gives you full freedom to play and enjoy a plethora of rich sounds wherever and whenever you may wish to do so, as it only requires a charged battery (which will serve you at least for 4 hours) and a set of (wired) headphones. (BTW, I’ve been frequently using a standard set that comes with almost every smartphone and even so the results are more than satisfactory.) Should you wish to play along a backing track, the Bluetooth feature is readily available with a switch of a button.
I realize that the above might sound more like a manufacturer’s ad than one’s personal opinion based on experience, but I was really impressed and got more than I had expected with this little fellow. Well, OK, I do miss the possibility to connect wirelessly to a set of headphones, but … you can't allways have it all, can you :)

Unfortunately, most probably because of the current pandemic and its various consequences, delivery time is painfully long but the gadget is well worth waiting for.

f
Exceeds expectations
fpipita 19.09.2024
Very happy with this purchase.

By selecting the studio preamp, it is possible to use the Mustang Micro with a bass guitar. I've tested it with my passive Fender Jazz and Precision basses and they both sound great through it. For best volume, I strongly recommend using low impedance headphones. I've tested it with 16 ohm and 20 ohm ones and 1/4 volume was more than enough to hear myself comfortably. Playing with lower volume also has the advantage to extend battery life.

The bluetooth connection is a great plus as it allows me to jam on my favorite tracks, play while watching video lessons and so on.

I had another pleasant surprise when I almost accidentally connected the Mustang Micro to my Android 14 Samsung Galaxy A9+ tablet through an USB-C to USB-C cable: by using virtually any app able to record sounds (like the camera app), the tablet automatically records what comes out from the Mustang (which the tablet recognizes as an "external microphone"). The output includes the sound of the bass but also the track sent to the Mustang through the bluetooth connection.

In conclusion: this is an amazing little tool and it is strongly recommended also for bass players!

Great plug-and-play (literally) practice tool - worth the price
DC85 20.01.2022
This finally replaced my 22 (!) year old Korg Pandora as a practice tool, to be used with headphones.

The preset sounds are great and offer a nice range of amps and effects, suitable for practicing and having some quick fun.

Suitable for Blues, Funk, Rock, Hard Rock etc. but not so much for the more extreme sides of Metal (might need to look elsewhere if this is what you wish to use it for).

You can also connect your phone via bluetooth to play backing tracks on it and jam (or practice exercises), which is really cool.

The device construction seems reasonably solid (we'll see in the long-run)

Overall, a great product, with a reasonable price.

T
So good!!!
Thubbsy 20.12.2022
I got this little headphone amp to take with me on the road. It's very portable, USB-C rechargeable (so you don't have to take another cable or batter with you) and all you need to do is plug it into the guitar as well as some headphone, turn it on and you're good to go.
The best surprise was the sound. I'm a rookie to amps, but the quality of the tone blew me away, to the point where I prefer using it for practicing in my bedroom. It's really easy to use, sounds great and has enough options to tinker with the tone.
The USB interface works good, but I had a tiny bit of delay on my setup with my M1 iPad and Amplitube. Not much, but definitely noticable, so probably not ideal for using it to model amps via a computer or iPad. The sound seemed fine otherwise, so probably still good for recording a track at home, with the headphone output to monitor sound.
One thing that would've made this thing even better: I wish it had a built-in tuner. But otherwise, I really like it!
