Great value! Loud amp.
EmilioRoberto 02.11.2018
I got this for home use. The sound is good. I use it will my acoustic my ST style, my semi hollow and my U-bass and they all sound great. I love the versatility with the different amp sounds and effects. After buying a Katana 100 MKII I had to change my review of the Champion 100. It is hard to describe, but the tonal qualities of the Campion just doesn't hold up to other amps and for basically the same price one can get a Katana with many more options.

Pros: great value and good sound. I can't compare it with a valve amp but it was under 300 so you can't compare it with a 1500 amp. It has an effects loop. This is one of the main reasons I bought it.

Cons: it is a bit heavy. You won't want to be dragging this amp around with you from place to place. It is a shame that you can't mix effects.

I had the champion 100 for only a couple of hours before it stopped working. Great work from thomann made the return and replacing/service fast and painless.

i may return here with a full review if this one holds together.

....
Some weeks later.
I now had the pleasure of playing the champion 100.
Im going to use it in a small rehearsal room.

I do appreciate the "voice control" where i have the possibility to find almost any sound, but thats also the problem. Instead of playing guitar i find myself turning the the voice control round and round to find the best sound. Generally i do like alot of knobs and settings but in this case i find it hard to stop turning. After some hours in use ive (kind of) stopped turning the knob and its now pointing at the blackface settings.

A problem with these simulation-amps is that you can like it but you can never really love it because you cant describe the sound (and weight :-) of it. With that being said i do think there is kind of a Fender sounding amp. The amp also looks as a fender amp i dont think the feel i fender. There is something little plastic about it.

Other combo amps that the champion 100 will be standing side by side with in my/our business is the peavey bandit 112 and the vox ac30vr. I personally prefer the darker sound and heavier feeling of the ac30vr even tough it dosnt have the same character/voice control as the champion 100. The ac30vr also has problem with presenting really clean tones. For me, the champion will be the alternative i will present when people want a cleaner or brighter sound then the ac30vr.

As a solid state, this amp is fine, but compared to a tube amp, you can feel the difference. My little tube amp, which is only 1 watt, sounds much better than this, especially in overdrive or metal sound. And I use an overdrive pedal on both of them. I am going to buy a 50 watt amptube which is a little more expensive than this. As for the Champion 100, I am in doubt to sell it or hold as a backup amp.
