Versatile and effective
Patrick M 11.11.2015
On my ever ongoing journey to find 'my sound' I have tried a fair few strings along the way. These Elixir strings quite simply made their way into my top few very quickly. Nice and punchy sound, with a good bit of brightness-but not so much it is tinny or overbearing, which I found with strings such as Elite.

Elixir preach a lot about the durability of their strings, and while I am pretty sure there's a difference, it isn't monstrous. I do play fairly aggressively, which may help in them wearing down - but it is still not substantially longer than it takes to wear down most other strings.

They come well packaged-it is always nice to know that you aren't going to get a dud set because the packaging is awful. But the real strength of these strings lays in their versatile sound; bright and punchy enough to be exciting and almost aggressive when needed, but still full and bassy. There's a certain character to them I find missing that's in Ernie Ball strings, but...can't have everything, aye?

TL:DR - if you're looking for your new strings, yes these are a set you need to try.

v
my go to strings for 34 inch scale
vukrogi 08.08.2019
pros:
-they last up to 16 months
-considering every other non coated string goes dead in 2 weeks with my sweat, i'd have to change 32 sets in those 16 moths, so i save at least 20 times the price.
-good tension even with low E string dropped to D
-consistent tone
-smooth feel under the fingers, they are gentle to you fingertips
-sounds great in the mix
-they stay in tune
-best sounding and lasting coated strings on the market

cons:
-some non coated strings still sound a tad better, but every advantage gets lost the mix with the whole band, so ... not really a con
-some may find them a bit too slippery, but imho that's just a thing you get used to.
-they can get a bit of a "ditry" look after some time but that doesn't affect the sound

Last much longer than others
Vorath 09.03.2021
I have waited for months before writing this review as i was skeptical about the coating but i have been converted.

I do not play daily and my bass can spend many weeks unplayed in my closet and previous string would inevitably degrade quite quickly even like this. These string on the other hand still sound like new after months and i could not be happier.

Pros:
- good sound
- same "feel" as non coated strings
- last much longer

Cons:
- price
- no single set for 6-strings

JV
Great Bass strings
Jernej V. 06.02.2021
I use the strings on my Fender Jazz. The tension is nice and they play great. The sound really works for me. The highs are clear but subtle and more gentle in comparison to EB Slinkys I used before.

Lows and mids are great. As a whole the sound is punchy and sits really well in the mix with other instruments.

CON: None so far. Will update in a couple of months.
PRO: Great sound and promised lifetime. Really looking forward to not having to change strings.

The greatest strings of all time
LoTone 17.08.2014
I always had the problem that normal strings, budget AND premium models, only lasted for one, two or three weeks. The sweat of my hands just destroyed them. After a while the sound was only a muddy "blurb", not an explosive "booom!".
Not only the costs where incredible, but also the invest of time in changing strings. Very annoying!
But with the Elixir strings all turned to good. Very good! Now I can keep a set of strings for six to twelve MONTHS(!) on a bass. And that for the price of a normal premium set of strings.
At the beginning the sound is not as brilliant as with other strings, but Elixir now produces also steel strings... Perhaps they are more brilliant. I will give them a try...
The sound stays the same for a veeeeery long time. I don't know how long they can be used for just-finger-players. I sometimes use a pick and with that I destroy the coating of the Elixirs. So after some months they get muddy at these "injured" positions. And then the sound begins to collapse.
But all in all they are just a fantastic piece of gear! I recommend them heavily to everyone who has a sweat problem.

A
Very high quality strings!
Anonymous 14.12.2014
I've used Elixir strings ever since I started paying. They sound great, last long, hold tension and tune well, and work well with Hipshot Xtenders.

These strings are particularly great if your hands sweat a lot while you play (like mine do) as they have the Elixir registered NANOWEB coating. This is an exterior coating that protects against sweat and dirt causing premature erosion and sound degradation. Although they still feel and sound like normal strings.

They are very bright, punchy and tight sounding strings and, if you like that sound, you will like these strings. They aren't very dark sounding and I find them to sound less 'weighty' than other leading brands.

It's subjective whether you will like the sound, but they last a long time which makes them very good value for money in my opinion.
