Surprisingly great pickup
V_Korneev 09.05.2018
I knew these pickups have decently high output and low noise levels. I knew these pickups have clear and detailed sound with no ?mumbly lows? or ?sandy highs?. Yet, I didn?t really expect anything more than ?loud and tight? from a relatively cheap minirail with a ceramic magnet.

Well, I was wrong. This thing is great with overdrive, very good with distortion, and in single coil mode it preserves that classic ?Telecaster-ish? singlecoil tone. Nice little monster with very wide area of applications.

DiMarzio DP384BK
Lukas762 16.05.2014
The DiMarzio DP384BK is a Humbucker in Singlecoil size.
I put this Chopper T in my old Fender Telecaster, because i wanted a warmer tone that can handle higher Gain stages better than a singlecoil.

Sound:
The DiMarzio DP384BK is not a high output pickup.
It has the same output as my Standard neck pickup, so they work great together.
It is actually more telecaster twang in the tone now, what i like. both pickups together sound very clear and sweet, that´s how i love it!
The DiMarzio DP384BK for itsself is not an agressive pickup. It sound great in crunch modes and it sounds always very precise and clear.

The DiMarzio DP384BK also offers the chance to be splitted, to get singlecoils tones out of it, but i think thats not necessary because it always sounds a bit like a singlecoil. Maybe the output is too low a few people. Its not a metal pickup, but its perfect for blues, country, rock and hardrock (maybe with a booster in front)

M
Great replacement for a telecaster
M1ch43l 12.03.2018
I replaced the stock pickup in one of my esquires with this dimarzio. Wired it to give single coil in 1st position, dual coil in parallel in the second position for a p90 like tone and humbucker mode in the 3th position. This is now one my most versalite guitars, and it only has 1 pickup

I dont like it
Haik5 31.08.2021
I dont like it - I first installed a dimarzio pick up on my neck position and i absolutely loved it, so decided to get this chopper t for the bridge, but really a major disappointment- it cuts out all the high end... you get more mids (duh it's a humbucker) but still... i have humbuckers on my gibson that give me more treble and high end than this one... i am really thinking of changing it...

R
Warm, beautiful and strong
Racor 24.01.2020
As a telecaster fan, I don't like much bridge pickups, they sound so dirty and "bodyless", but the chopper T sounds very warm, with clean amp sounds too bright, but using distortion it sounds very complete and heavy, good for hard rock, metal, etc. I am using it with a 500k pot, because I use a Seymour duncan 59 on the neck, they both work very well together. It's a cheaper option for the Seymour duncan hot rails as well.

Great pickup for rock/blues sound
stefrg470 10.11.2018
The standard pickup in my squier tele was too thin and twangy for my taste. This one gave me the sound I was looking for rock/blues style. It is not a hot humbucker. It retains the characteristics of a single coil but with a bit more low end and no noise which is perfect for me. Middle position is great with a standard single-coil neck pickup. Since it's a 4-wire, I added a switch to split the coils but the split sound is weak so not that much useful. I also replaced the 3-way switch with a 4-way so that I can have bridge+neck in series. This gives a great mid-boosted signal which is very usable in certain situations.

Pros:
-Thicker sound with no hum
-Retains clarity

Cons:
-Very weak sounding when split (compared to other, full size humbuckers).

Im a huge Kotzen fan. Love his tone which lead me to purchasing this pickup and the twang King. These pickups transformed my Squier Affinity Tele into a monster :)

B
Very happy with this pickup
Baldini 23.08.2023
This is my first single coil sized humbucker. The pickups I had in my cheap T style guitar were a little too low output and a little bit too twangy for my taste so I decided to swap them with The Chopper. I installed this in my guitar as a single pickup with only volume pot. I must say it sounds great with overdriven and distorted tones. It still has a little bit of that Tele high end but not as much as a true single coil. I tried it trough my Bugera 6260 with some metal tones and it sounds awesome. I might try it with 250K pot also. Anyway, if you're looking for a great tele pickup that can handle drive and distortion this is the one.

Great telecaster bridge pickup
JVR94 24.04.2019
I honestly can't praise this pickup enough. It really did the trick for me. It gives a nice humbucker sound without losing the telecaster twang. I was never truly happy with the way my telecaster sounded untill i installed the Dimarzio DP172 and the Dimarzio DP384. They are a great pair of very responsive pickups and are just miles better than the standard pickups (even in american made telecaster). I even have a coil split installed with the DP384, which makes it even more versatile.

Good pickup

Has some humbucker vibe it does not have a %100 true single coil sound. It sounds good in its own way. No hum so it gets the job done.
