Good product, even better price

My band started gigging a few years ago, and I noticed the need for an acoustic in some of our songs. My old trusty Epiphone didn’t have a microphone, and I didn’t feel like modifying the guitar permanently with some kind of internal microphone system, so I started digging on the Internet for an easier solution. I knew I needed something affordable and something I could attach and detach with ease.

I quickly came across the Dean Markley Pro Mag Plus, and after some closer studying and comparison I ordered one for myself. Initially, I was surprised by the sound quality. When I ran my acoustic through an EQ pedal, I was able to further fine-tune the sound to my taste. The pickup attaches easily, although you should be careful when doing it as you can quite easily chip the edge of the guitar's soundhole. As it turned out, two of my band members bought the same pickup based on my experience. A good product for a really good price.

I like the sound from this pickup

Personally I really like the sound from this pickup... but I'll admit that others aren't quite so impressed. But for the price, it's a great piece of kit. It swaps in and out of different guitars easily, and seems reasonably robust. We connect it to a mixing desk via a DI box (phantom powered), and that works well. For under €50, you can't go wrong...

You get what you pay

I bought this pick up because there's no PA in the local pub where I got booked few unplugged gigs.

The way how you place it on the guitar is really simple and with a little of creativity you can turn around bass and treble part so you can get different soundings.

I plugged the cable directly into an electric guitar amp on clean setting with a little of reverb. The sound itself wasn't bad actually but what you have to be careful is the cable which broke after a year of usage. Fortunately it can be repaired at home with basic soldering but it's still a good warning for the company that they should think their cable placement again.

A lovely pickup

I bought my Dean Markley Pro Mag Plus for two purposes. Firstly I run an open mic night and sometimes people turn up to play with acoustic guitars with no preamp. The Dean Markley Pro Mag Plus is ideal in these situations as it has a very simple and effective system for insertion into sound holes. Also I had the idea that I could put it in my Martin DRS so that I could use it to run effects through whilst using my built in preamp for a simultaneous clean sound. This has proved to be quite successful. The sound quality is not as good as I'd hoped as it lacks bass end sensitivity. I am very pleased with the build quality and the easily reparable jack plug system as accidents sometimes happen. I feel confident that my Dean Markley Pro Mag Plus will serve me well for many years.

Mine made a lot of noises but it's just bad luck I guess, I received a defective one.

I contacted Thomanns great support and they are helping me out!

Besides, I have only read/seen good and proper reviews on the internet about this pick-up.
