Danelectro Back Talk Reverse Delay

I don't own the original version and prices on the second hand market are quite prohibitive. This pedal actually includes 2 circuits: one analog and one digital. This results in the box having a slightly lengthier height dimension. But on a crowded pedalboard, it occupies the same space as an MXR/Catalinbread/Zvex box, which is welcome compared to the size of the original version. The aged finish is a lovely feature. The soft switch that engages the pedal on feels weird in the beginning, but in the end I like it very much: there is enough resistance to avoid any accidental switching while not hurting your bare feet.

Soundwise: the repeats sit somewhere in between the analog warmth of my EHX Deluxe Memory Man, and the definition of my old digital Boss Delay. This is quite unique as I have only come across 100% digital (cold an inorganic) reverse delay options...

Reverse delay is not versatile per se, and I would not recommend it as a first delay purchase. Still, it's very unique and allows for reverse-tape type of sounds when turning the mix knob all the way up. I find it a bit pricey for a made in China device, but it is an inspiring addition to my pedalboard, that sounds better compared to the reverse delays I have heard so far.

Don't forget that the pedal does not accept battery operation. A 9V standard-Boss type of transformer will be needed.

Mein erster Impuls am Ende des Abends, als ich das Gerät im Bandkontext probierte, war es zurückzuschicken- aber der Test im heimischen "Studio" überzeugte mich dann doch sehr.
Es muss natürlich der musikalische Rahmen vorhanden sein, in dem es wirksam klingt, also eher ein getragenerer Sound in dem der Effekt seinen Platz findet. Der Reverse Effekt ist super und ich habe, bis auf die abgeschabten Kanten am Gehäuse;) mit denen ich leben kann- nichts zu bemängeln-. Der Mixregler spricht bereits ab 10:00 stark an. Auch die beiden andern Regler bewirken einiges- Insgesamt bietet es viele Möglichkeiten, wobei der Effekt natürlich speziell ist. Kein Delay im herkömmlichen Sinne- ist wohl jedem klar- die Klänge überlagern sich, je nach Einstellung stark, und je nach Mixeinstellung gehen melodische Strukturen, im positiven Sinne verloren. Es bietet auch ein gut klingendes Slapback Delay, aber eben auch, und das ist es, den Reverseeffekt, für experimentelle -cycledelic- Soundscapes.....
