Unfortunately mine broke after only a few sessions. I used it only on two small combos in a home studio with an SM57 and a D6 bass mic (on a Line 6 Spider II guitar combo and a Hartke A25 bass combo) and I would recommend either spending more on a more substantial unit or to take great care and dismount it as soon as you have finished using it, in order to protect the mechanism and not leave it in the stretched position any longer than necessary, especially if you are using it on a larger combo or cab or are using it for stage/touring purposes. Alternatively buy a decent quality short boom mic stand if you have the space!
It's a shame because I know Audix make some great products (as mentioned I also have their D6 which is an excellent kick drum/bass amp mic that I use regularly) and of course it's possible that mine was just a below-standard example which escaped through quality control but I also have to say that Thomann's service was excellent and I have absolutely no complaints about them, just the unfortunate experience with the product.

J
Best mic holder
JonnoLP 02.03.2019
After many years of carrying various mic stands around - and sometimes forgetting to take one, i came across this problem solver.

I use the Audix Cab Grabber on a Peavey Classic 30 and Yamaha DG100-212 and it fits on both perfectly. I usually have an SM57 in there but have used other mics without any issues.

Transporting the Cab Grabber is a breeze if you have an open back amp.

Everybody that has seen it has commented on what a great tool it is and I couldn't agree more.

In terms of quality, I cannot imagine it getting damaged very easily; it certainly feels very solid and well built.

Would I buy it again? I just did! 2 is better than 1.

Audix Cab Grabber

One of the best things i've ever bought!!
No more knocking over smalls the booms you use to mic your amp. The spring is extremely strong and the gooseneck can go in any direction and also is very hard to move once tightened.
It is near impossible to knock your mic out of position.
Brilliant!

Great product that makes your life and everyday recording workflow easier. Nicely built. Probably slightly overpriced but works as intended.

An Awesome piece of kit.

I was getting tired of my lovely cab getting a great big boom stand shoved in front of it at our gigs, for me or someone else to end up knocking the mic out of position so I decided to give the cab grabber a try.

It is a very well made, robust and easy to use item. I do have to return this sized one, but I am going for the larger XL item as it didn't quite fit my cabinet.

If you use a 4 x 12 cabinet then get the XL version but from what I've seen from this one it couldn't get any easier to use.

Does exacty as you'd hope it would.

The only one worth using
BernieW 03.01.2023
I've tried two other brands of a similar type of mic mount for guitar cabs, and this is the best. The spring is stronger and clamps more securely. The geometry is better, and it has bigger and tougher parts. It only has a 5/8-27" thread so for Euro 3/8" you will need an adapter. It is by far the most stable at holding the mic in place without sagging. This is why you see them on the biggest tours and concerts. The Gravity one was disappointing as was On-Stage, both sagged with a light mic and both could fall off the amp. You won't have those problems with this model.

LM
Review of Audix Cab Grabber
Le Monk 14.01.2014
This cab micing device works well with standard cabs and combos. However, if you got a combo where the speaker is mounted a bit off-set you may find it tricky to get the mic in exactly the spot you want it. The non-flexible neck of the mic-holder makes precise positioning hard. In my opinion there are more versatile and less expensive alternatives.

The spring mechanism is great so it can hold itself on the cab pretty nice, but setting up the angle of the mic gets a bit tricky cuz of the design, you can't get a good tight setup without using some sort of clamp to help. I used it at a live gig once and mounted it on the side of the cab, and halfway through the show, the arm decided to just let loose and dropped the mic position to where it wasnt facing the speaker at all.

If possible i'd recommend to mount it on top of a cab to reduce that risk, but other than that, just stick to a regular mic stand.

I use Audix Cab Grabber all the time paired with Shure SM57 microphone. It's hidden as well as Ornage speaker cabinet inside a home-made isolation box all the time and I can assure you I never did any readjustment of the mic's position caused by the Audix. It's a reliable tool.
