Neutral Headphones great for producing
ockpii 01.08.2020
I use these headphones for mixing and a bit of mastering in my current studio situation. I spent hours listening to different genres of music to get a feel for how they translate and I was extremely pleased.

They offer great stereo imaging (some would say too wide, but you can use that to your advantage) and clarity both in terms of detail and in terms of frequencies.

I would say they're not the most comfortable of headphones. I'm speaking mostly in regards to the headband. They're not nearly as comfortable as, say, a pair of Beyerdynamic headphones. That being said, I'm sure they'll loosen up a bit with time, and if you take regular breaks (which are useful anyway to avoid ear fatigue), then that will not be a serious issue whatsoever.

Bear in mind that you will need to be extra cautious if you're planning on using this to track (or record) as well, as they're open by design, and do let sound spill out. This makes them more suited for the mixing/producing parts of the job.

Issue with Left earcup
kk34 17.12.2020
The sound of k702 is very clean and well balanced. I had no issues with using it and the comfort was always great for long hours. A standard DAC/AMP is good enough, no need to have expensive ones.
It is open back but no need to worry about losing bass as it is still there. Clarity of Mids/High are great for the price, well detailed but not too flat so you can still enjoy pop music,

But, after 6 months the left earcup stopped sounding. I believe its due to the cable soldering in around the detachable cable but its a bit unfortunate as the plastic build quality is well done for the outside.

Very good headphones. Sound is very clean, even bass. Very practical design and also body of headphones are flexible on every head and ears. I am using them in my home studio.
Pros: Long cable, dual jacks (3,5mm and reduction for 6,3mm). Outer rings of speakers are suitable around your ears.
Cons: After few months the joint, which connects jack cable with headphones caused disconnecting of left hearing side. Sent it back to thomann as a claim, after few weeks got it back with solved problem.

Nice and Flat
nksegos 29.09.2021
As far as budget "budget"-minded reference headphones, these take the cake. Crystal clear and neutral sounding along with a very spicy soundscape feeling thanks to their open back design. Of course the caveat is that these headphones are not made to be discreet and whatever you're listening to will noticeably bleed into your surrounding space, but that's the case with mostly all open back designs. At 62 ohms, it might be a worry that these won't perform very well without a dedicated DAC, but rest assured, a modern laptop or phone will drive them just as fine as it would a 32 ohm pair.

Overall, it is a great product for what it is supposed to be. A pair of sturdy, neutral sounding open back headphones. As long as someone goes in without expecting chunky bass frequencies and to have their playlist be private, then it would be very hard to be disappointed at this price.

R
Very good headphones overall
Radney 14.12.2022
OK, so I needed an open back headphones for critical listening and after I watched few reviews I settled on the K-702s. The ratio price/quality is quite good with these. I think they give similar experience to listening to a pair of near field monitors, which sometimes I need when I want to edit tracks or even mix at home. Of course they bleed sound out (hence the open design) but not to the point that bother anyone else in the room. The sound in my opinion is very good with crisp highs and detailed mid-range and low end. As I said before really close to what you would hear from your studio monitors. Many times I did the 85% of the mix at home and then check it and finished it at the studio. The materials feel kinda cheep and they are quite bulky but this is not a deal breaker for me. Also they are not as comfortable on the head as ATH-M50s for example. They feel kinda loose but this can be a good thing in hot days because they let my ears breathe. I must say though that both of the ear-cup drivers stopped producing sound at some point so I needed to send them for repair at two different occasions. Luckily the repair was quite easy and cheap and I haven't had any problems since. In conclusion I must say I am quite satisfied with them. Also the detachable cable is a plus for me.

D
not sensitive enough for a digital piano without amp
Daniël 25.11.2024
They seem to be of good quality and are comfortable, and the sound was good when connected to the sound-card of my PC, however the volume is woefully inadequate when used in conjunction with my Yamaha P-525 digital piano. Key to this - I discovered - is not just impedance but more importantly the sensitivity... even a small drop in the sensitivity rating means they need significantly more power to drive them.

I tested 4 headphones: Yamaha HPH-150B, AKG K-702, Beyerdynamic DT-990, and Sennheiser HD 560S. Only the Sennheiser HD 560S produced plenty of volume (plus it had higher impedance, generally giving better detail).

Harsh as hell
VSartini 25.03.2021
I run these through EQ Software, otherwise, they are awful for regular use.
I wouldn't use them for connecting directly to things, which sounds crazy but so do these headphones, the 10k is super harsh and loud, and so is 600hz ish, which makes everything sound honky.
It's not pleasant, but if you run them through software, they are great.

The bottom line is, only get them if you own abbey road studio 3(Sounds awesome) or some other EQ software.

Great Stage
GoranS 22.12.2020
Got this recently to see what all the hype is about. I got them with a dose of skepticism, but after listening on this for some time now (10+ hours) I must say I'm presently surprised and enjoy this quite nicely.

Being a bold(y) as usual headphones give me irks, this are no exception, but the wide leather stripe is indeed helpful and I don't get a narrow "hot spot" on my head.

As comparison this are more comfortable (for me) than the Sony wh-1000xm3.

All in all quite pleased with the purchase!

Amazing sound
lmismyl 26.08.2021
I can't describe how much better these sound when you have used only cheaper headphones all your life.
Sound field is massive, I can hear things in songs I didn't before. A little harsh sounding at first, but that changed after I listened to different music for a few hours and now I can't use anything else.
One problem though - after a month of use, my right earcup stopped working and I had to use my warranty to fix it. Now I got them back and everything works. I guess that AKG's soldering is weak and therefore sometimes the wires inside get disconnected. This seams to be a classic problem and can happen, but otherwise I can't find anything to complain about.
